BG250 Combo Bass Amp - TonePrint®

BG250 Combo Bass Amp - Tuner

BG250 Combo Bass Amp - TubeDrive™

Description
The BG250 comes piled high with 250 watts of power, delivered through TC Electronic' top notch lightweight class D amp technology allowing a total weight of only 35lbs, making it one of the loudest and lightest combo amps in its class. The preamp features an ultrafast integrated 5 string bass tuner, TubeDrive, Intelligent contoured Bass Tone controls, as well as Auxiliary input and headphone output for playback and rehearsal situations, balanced XLR out for recording or live performance, and most importantly superb bass tone.
TonePrint® is a flexible effects section that allows you to decide exactly what effect you want in your amp at any given time.
BG250 comes loaded with TC Electronic' infamous SCF chorus as the default effect. However, from TC Electronic' website you can download numerous new bass effects for your amp, replacing the default chorus, with effects such as Octaver, Compressor, Overdrive & distortion, Flanger and Vibrato. Not to mention some of the best bass players in the world tailor their own personal effects tones for you to grab, all free of charge! Simply hook your amp up to your computer via the included USB cable, or even better. Beam your new effect or artist tone from your smartphone straight into your BG250 using the mind blowing TonePrint iOS and Android app.
The tone controls of BG250 features an intelligent integrated bass contour design, ensuring that each of the three tone controls always work optimally to help you sculpt your bass tone. Each control adapts their attack frequency, bandwidth and filter type depending on how you tweak the controls, always supplying meaningful bass tone responses. TubeDrive is not simply the average single stage clipping drive that is found on most bass amps. TubeDrive is a full recreation of the warm tube sound achieved only through the design of a pre-amp and power amp tube simulation stage. An optional Switch-3 foot pedal allows for remote enable/disable of the Mute function, TubeDrive and of course the TonePrint section. An integrated bass tuner allows for silenced tuning while the BG250 is muted and even features tuning during performance.

AMAZING
My BG250 has been nothing short of amazing. Lead guitarist said "you should have bought casters for an amp that size." then he picked it up. AMAZING sound for an amp that weighs only 35 pounds. The Toneprint feature is space age, just download the app to your phone and beam the toneprint to the pickup on your bass. just plain crazy. the app is free and so are all the effects. couldnt be happier.

Let me down at 2nd gig
I bought this amp at GC during their 4th of July holiday sale. I I had previously tested it out in the store and really liked what I heard. I was impressed with the "Tone Print" and "Tube Drive" functions and having a direct input for a PA was a plus although I use a Sans amp direct box already. It's light and easy to move around and this was the real reason I bought it. In my band, I always plug into the PA so, I really only needed it for stage sound. On the first gig it worked fine. On the 2nd gig only a few days later it quit on me in the first set. I was playing outside and it was in the 90's. I gave it a rest but, it never turned on again. Needless to say It was disappointing. I don't know if the heat was too much for it but, I can't say now that I'd recommend this amp to anyone. Maybe it was defective! I'm taking it back and getting a GK MB 115. I've been playing for over 45yrs and have always played tube amps. I have been using 1975 100watt Marshall with 4X12's and it always works but the weight/bulk of it is the reason I wanted something lighter. I thought I'd found that amp but, apparently not.

I could not be more pleased with this purchase. The sound quality is excellent at all volume levels. The tone controls really do allow you to contour the sound for good balance across the strings. Tubedrive won't get you a real dirty sound as you would get from a tube amp but it does give a nice punch up while not altering the tone balance. TonePrint effects are nice (I like the octave and vibrato effects) but it is the last effect in the line so I'll probably pick up the pedals and use the compressor effect (a very nice one) here. I would recommend this amp to someone looking for a small, light and powerful amp.
Great Little Amp

I have owned this amp for about a month now. It is replacing my GK 700RBii, GK NEO410 setup and Korg DTR1000. It is great in the practice room (about 8x15 in size). My wife says the house shakes about the same as with the GK setup. Played one show with it, volume about 1 o'clock and gain at about 2 without the limit light coming on. I asked my drummer if he could hear it and he said he could hear it just fine. I could not hear it as well as I could my previous setup, but that was to be expected. The cab is super light. The tuner is awesome. No more rack mount anything and saves a ton of weight. XLR output works perfect for recording. I don't play around too much with sound settings. I play punk/ska/reggae so I find what I like and keep it that way. The sound is great for me. I like to tube tone knob because I like a little growl to my sound. To sum up, the amp is not as loud as my GK setup, but It sounds great and is loud enough.
Deep Tone and Lighweight!

As I'm closing in on 40 Years old, I decided that hauling around a cabinet and head was taking a toll on the back and legs. I picked mine up September 2012. I was a little skeptical at first, because T.C. Electronic is known more for their pedals than amplification. Wow, was I surprised! What a deep tone a combo. And loud too! The first gig I did with it was a rootsy guitar/mandolin/bass/drums kind of thing at a house party. I played my P-bass through the BA250 with no mic or line out to the P.A.. It more than held its own. A gig with a similar lineup in a club had the sound-guy asking me to turn down! I recently took it to a rehearsal for a recording project (more in the metal vein) where the guitarist had a half-stack going. I just turned the master knob up a bit higher than usual and had no problem keeping up. The EQ is very versatile. I can get a wide variety of sounds, but leaving it flat gets the best tone. Was also skeptical about the tube simulator, but set at about 12 o'clock gives it just enough grit. Tried the tone print with my computer but had difficulty navigating the website. I hear beaming the print into your pickups with a smartphone is the way to go. Love having a mute-able tuner built in. No more tuner on the floor. The last couple of gigs I've done have been nothing more than the bass in a bag over my shoulder and the amp. While I love the light weight, it would have been nice to have handles on the side. Also, it comes with a shiny decal on the front that if removed, leaves a sticky residue. Minor problems for an affordable, lightweight and LOUD amp.

I absolutely LOVE this amp. This light weight isn't light weight in tone or volume. I'm playing in a metal band... heavily distorted guitars and hard hitting drums... and haven't had to turn it higher than 6 on the master. I'm running the Spectracomp and the Tubetone at all times. It makes this cheapo bass sound GREAT!

I was stoked to receive this amp just for jamming with my buds. I plugged it in and it had nice tone and good volume. I ran the recommended firmware upgrade and the amp restarted in a locked up mode. A few LED's lit and no sound ..ever again. Tried everything but this amp was toast just from running the recommended upgrade. Tried to call TC ..good luck with that..no phone # ?! they will only accept emails and try to get back to you in 4-5 business days..That does not cut it. Drove this non working machine which no one cares to back up to my local GC for a return. Went home and ordered a made in the USA Carvin. Called their Customer Service (they had a phone number and they answered!)...luck of the draw I guess but I feel this toneprint, phone apps, and firmware doesn't belong, is cheesy, or just not ready for a gigging amp. If it don't break right away like mine...odds are it probably will..maybe when you need the amp the most.
