TASCAM DR-22WL Handheld Linear PCM Recorder

I like the DR 22WL so far, but I have yet to really explore what it can do. For the price, makes a high quality demonstration recording of my digital piano.

I bought this to mainly record our Journey tribute band (Words Apart) in DFW. It can handle high sound pressure levels very cleanly, even a very loud guitar cab, yet still has large gain for recording an acoustic guitar with very impressive clean and crystal clear sound. Don't believe the Guitar Center employees who know nothing about the features of this product vs the glittsy looking ones. The included wifi is terrific for remote control - the display and controls are duplicated on your smarthphone (iphone or android) with a free app. You can see sound level, adjust record level, and even hear the sound as recorded live. The built in reverb sounds really good and I use it for playback. You are supposed to be able to stream any prerecorded audio over wifi, but that is very buggy on my iphone 6s - I don't care because that's just icing on the cake and all the other features more than make up for it & not a primary purpose. I have used Tascam products for over 20 years including 4 track, 8 track, and 16 track studio recorders and am always extremely pleased. Battery life is OK (roughly 20 hours) but at least it uses just two AA's and will work with rechargeables. Summary: - records pristinely in stereo at both very high and very low SPL - high gain for low level signals and clean - studio quality recording - external input and output - rotary gain knob at bottom easy to adjust - wireless remote control for recording works flawlessly & easily - AA batteries - tripod mount hole - built in high quality reverbs & adjustable - USB 3.0 port for quickly transferring large files to PC - backlit pleasing LCD display - looks really cool
