Tama S.L.P. SERIES G-BUBINGA

Tama S.L.P. SERIES G-BUBINGA

TAMA

Description

This 12-ply, 10mm Bubinga shell provides an extraordinarily punchy sound with a large helping of low-end. The combination of 2.3mm flanged hoops and low-mass separate lugs allow the Bubinga shell to resonate more naturally. While its suggested musical styles include pop, R&B, rock and country, the G-Bubinga is considered to be the best all-around snare in the S.L.P. series.

Tama bills this as a great all around snare and buddy is it! The resonant tone from the Bubinga is awesome low and punchy when tuned down and when tuned up has a great crack that will definitely pierce through the noise. Rimshots are like a shotgun! Cross sticking creates that great chik sound everyone wants. The tuning range is very impressive. I have seen some negative reviews of people saying the tone is terrible and the only thing I can see is if the resonant head is not tuned correctly yes it will sound like bad.

  • Great Drum to play always

Fit and finish are excellent. Looks fantastic. Still evaluating best head combinations for the sound I want, as the stock heads are just okay, but after tuning out-of-the-box, it sounded far superior to my birch Gretsch kit snare. I have been playing nearly 40 years and this is the first I could afford a high-end snare: the quality of the precision hardware and finish is a perfect compliment to the quilted Bubinga outer shell. Note to TAMA: The Detachable butt-plate feature is useless on this drum. For this to be functional, it requires the Grooved Snare Side Hoop which is only available with the Freedom lug and claw and hook system on the Starphonic. Have not been able to locate a snare side hoop to accommodate this potentially cool feature... Also worth mentioning is that the snare side head was received damaged in the box and torn from the ring. I phoned up "Lennon" at the Plymouth Meeting store and he sent me a replacement that I received in two days. thanks for the excellent customer service. (while awaiting the replacement, I temporarily installed an old Diplomat so I could play it as soon as possible). Couldn't be happier with this purchase!

I was looking online for a snare when I came across this beauty. The black nickel hardware and the Bubinga are a great combo. It looks awesome. (I play a Warwick Thumb Bass with Ovangkol and Bubinga so I'm a little biased here) But of course looks are not the priority. The construction is awesome...not a all cheap. It has a nice, deep sound. It has a tight crack to it. It resonates just enough, but not too much. I did put an Evans E-ring on it to help. As with any drum, it will ring a little if you don't have the head tight enough. It was easy to tune and sounds good in low, medium and high tuning. I am overall very please with the purchase. It is a great snare for people who don't quite have the money for super high end stuff. 5 Stars.

  • Almost too beautiful.

This drum was much brighter than I expected, not the darker tone I'm used to from bubinga. It also has more ring than I was expecting, easily as much as my steel snare drum. That said, it is a wonderful drum. Plenty of volume and cut due to thick shell and bright tone. I had to tune it differently than I do my other snares, but once I found the right range I was very happy with it. Definitely has it's own character.
