TAMA Artwood Maple Snare Drum 14 x 6.5 in. Dark Indigo Burst

Description
Tama's Artwood Maple snare drum is a sight and sound to behold. This 14" x 6.5" snare features eight plies of maple with silver nickel hardware for a mix of vintage warmth and modern edge. The Artwood series is renowned for drums with focused, sensitive response and full, fat tone—and this snare is no exception. Its 45-degree bearing edges and 2.3 mm Power Craft II hoops yield maximum shell contact for articulate, controlled articulation whether played lightly or pounded heavily. The Tama Artwood Maple snare drum is a dark beauty with a thunderous voice.
Eight-Ply Maple Shell Provides Depth and Character
At the heart of this Artwood snare is an eight-ply maple shell, renowned for its blend of depth, warmth and sensitivity. Its 45-degree bearing edges allow for a broad area of shell contact with the drum head, enhancing shell vibration for a wide dynamic range and complex overtones. The shell's thickness and blend of maple plies results in a drum that speaks with authority in all dynamic ranges—from subtle ghost notes to full-force rimshots.
Silver Nickel Hardware Delivers Vintage-Inspired Style
This Artwood snare features silver nickel drum hardware for a mix of vintage warmth and modern flair. Its sturdy yet lightweight 2.3 mm Power Craft II hoops, lugs and tension rods provide a blend of sensitivity and durability. The hoops' inward-curving design allows for broader head seating and shell contact. Die-cast claws firmly grip the hoops while allowing the batter head to resonate freely. Together, the silver nickel components yield an overall vintage-inspired style with thoroughly modern performance.
Additional Features Offer Playability and Sound Control
This 14" snare also includes 20-strand snappy snares, a robust throw-off lever, butt end with tension adjustment knob and triple-flanged counterhoop. The snares provide sensitivity and crisp response. The throw-off lever and butt end allow for precise snare tensioning and disengagement. The 2.3 mm counterhoops maximize shell contact for wide-open, resonant tone with ample sensitivity.

And I'm here to tell you.... at this price point, few are better. It's my go to workhorse. I get compliments from fellow drummers all the time about its sound quality. Very versatile. Can't recommend it enough!!! Only issue is had is a sticky share throw off lever.
Great Snare for the price!

Great maple snare for the price. I got a variety of tones out of this snare with different tunings, and it looks great aesthetically as well.

I already have four snare drums, and this is the latest snare in my collection. I have a dark blue drum set and this snare fits right in. Can't go wrong with a maple shell. This snare sounds great. I usually change drumheads, but this snare sounds good right out of the box. Was well packed and arrived in perfect condition.

Remarkable sound, warm rich and mellow, yet has a solid punch when you need it.

I already owned the TAMA Artwood in Birch. It is warm and great for deep sounding drum parts. I wanted a 6.5 wooden snare with just a little more bite and projection. This Maple version has that without being too bright. After purchasing it, I immediately took it into one of Nashville's premier recording studios to cut some drum tracks for a funky rock project. I used 6 snares on 6 songs including a Black Beauty, a vintage Gretsch, an older Steel Pearl Sensitone, the Birch Artwood and a Pearl Maple Modern Utility. The TAMA Artwood Maple sounded GREAT! There were slight differences obviously but this snare was right in the middle with all the tone, depth and projection anyone could want. I don't see how a boutique $2000 wood snare could sound much, if any better.
