Synergy
Description

The Synergy SYN-20IR 20W tube guitar amp head delivers unparalleled flexibility by combining Synergy’s all-tube modular preamp system with built-in impulse response (IR) technology. Designed for musicians who demand tonal versatility, this amp allows players to swap Synergy preamp modules, each based on legendary amplifier circuits. The built-in clean channel, combined with two additional module channels, creates a fully functional three-channel amp capable of handling any playing style. Whether you're recording, rehearsing, or performing, the SYN-20IR offers studio-grade sound with modern connectivity.

Revolutionary Preamp Module System

The SYN-20IR integrates Synergy’s modular all-tube preamp system, giving players access to officially licensed recreations of classic amplifier circuits. Each module features dual 12AX7 tubes and accurately replicates the tone and feel of its original amplifier counterpart. With an ever-expanding list of modules from industry-leading brands like Friedman, Soldano, Diezel, and more, the SYN-20IR offers limitless tonal exploration without the need for multiple amplifiers.

Selectable Power Amp Structure and Reactance Control

Unlike traditional tube amps, the SYN-20IR features a three-mode Power Amp Structure, allowing players to fine-tune the response of the EL84-driven power section. Mode A delivers balanced negative feedback for a clear and punchy tone, Mode B emulates vintage phase inverter characteristics with relaxed mids and shimmering highs, and Mode C tightens the lows and darkens the highs for a modern, high-gain response. The Reactance control dynamically adjusts presence and midrange for even greater tonal shaping.

Industry-Leading Impulse Response Technology

The SYN-20IR includes a powerful digital IR engine with under 1ms of latency, allowing players to send their signal directly to a mixing board, recording interface, or headphones. With four onboard IR slots and the ability to load custom IRs via the free Synergy Editor Software, this amp provides realistic cabinet simulation for a fully mic’d-up sound without needing a physical speaker cabinet.

Advanced Connectivity and MIDI Integration

Equipped with an XLR balanced output, an ultra-transparent FX loop, and a dedicated headphone output, the SYN-20IR is designed for both stage and studio use. The included 3-button MIDI footswitch allows for real-time switching of amp structures, IR settings, and channel selection. Additionally, the amp supports up to 128 user-programmable presets when connected to an external MIDI controller, ensuring seamless integration into any professional rig.

  • Fundamentally Different from a Modeler

I switched my recording desk to modelers about five years ago and use two of the best - the UA Dumble for my main lead tones and the Poly Effects Ample for everything else. I decided that I was done with micing amps and I don't regret that decision at all as I've gotten generally excellent results with that setup, but… Since I continue to test a ton of modelers (buy and return) through the signal chain on my desk so that I can stay current on my options, I recently picked up a Re-Volt (analog device) for testing there. It didn't convince me that it deserved some of the very tight real estate at the desk (recorded material wasn't materially superior IMO), but it was definitely a different experience when played through the DAW and monitors. I really started to miss the feel that this device provided and I decided to pick up a Synergy for the best of both worlds - the flexibility of a digital modeler and the feel of an analog amp That turned out to be a very good call on my part. I keep it in a separate practice and performance rig with a simple chain - Fender Compugilist in front for compression and dirt and a small reverb in the FX loop. I have five modules and one (original Soldano) sounds reasonably good, two (Dumble and Tone King Imperial) sound excellent and two (Z Wreck and Marshall) sound great. I wont pretend to speak to authenticity - i haven't played these amps through this cab in this space, but all clearly put you in the right ballpark and all are IMO worth using, but the last two are really, really outstanding. I still own a couple of high-end boutique amps but I'm not sure that I will keep them long term. The Synergy is just so versatile and so satisfying that I may move to it as my exclusive practice/performance amp. The cost of modules can add up quickly if you let yourself go down the rabbit hole, but I don't think that will be a problem for me. I may or may not switch out the Soldano for a newer variant or I may just sell it, but I feel like the other four modules cover pretty much everything that I want/need. Note: the clean channel in the amp itself is not necessarily a world beater, but it is very useful so I can set each module for a crunch sound and a lead sound without losing a good clean option. This is a terrific little amp and i recommend it enthusiastically

I am blown away by how awesome this amp is. It sounds incredible. I am getting better tones right off the bat with this amp than with amps twice the price I fiddle with for hours. It's 100% that sound in your head. #sweepstakes
