Sterling Audio Harmony H224 USB Audio Interface

Description
For years, if you were looking for accessible studio- and tour-quality microphones, Sterling Audio has been an excellent source for extraordinary value. Continuing in that tradition, the Sterling Audio H224 2x4 USB audio interface provides a solid center to your home or portable recording setup, with metering options you usually don't find at this level. The bundled software, along with your computer, gets you recording right out of the box.

Class-A Mic Preamps
Like many legendary studio consoles, the H224 features Class-A discrete components and studio-quality audio converters. With up to 65dB of available gain, the Sterling Audio H224 provides crystal-clear sound for every mic. Each mic preamp has a dedicated pad and high-pass filter, +48V phantom power and is switchable from mic to line level, making it easy to hook up more of your gear. Metering is simple and easy to read with separate metering for inputs and outputs, so you always know what you’re seeing (and hearing).

Flexible I/O Design With Zero-Latency Monitoring
The H224 USB audio interface gets its name from its versatile I/O (input/output) configuration. In addition to the pair of balanced combination XLR/1/4" TRS inputs (that’s the first "2"), there are a pair of dedicated 1/4" TS instrument inputs that are optimized to match the output impedance of your favorite guitars and basses (the second "2"). Then, there are four line-level outputs (the final "4") that expand the flexibility of the H224 to accommodate many different production workflows, from re-amping to multiple monitor setups. A direct switch enables recording with zero-latency monitoring. There are also dedicated 5-pin MIDI connections for connections with controllers, synths and any other MIDI-enabled devices.

Record at Home or On the Go
Because the Sterling Audio H224 USB audio interface is bus-powered and class-compliant, it does not require an external power supply. This, in conjunction with its compact form factor and light weight, makes it extremely portable, while a robust metal enclosure adds durability. It’s not only compatible with virtually every laptop, but many tablets as well. So, you never need to be at a loss when inspiration strikes.

Powerful Bundled Software
Sterling Audio knows you want to get started recording as soon as possible, so they’ve included an impressive collection of audio software with the H224 USB interface. This bundle includes Bitwig Studio 8-Track DAW (digital audio workstation), Two notes Engineering’s Wall of Sound guitar and bass amp, cabinet and microphone modeling plug-in, the Steven Slate All-Access plug-in package and more.
Whether you’re just getting started on your recording journey, have been looking for a system that’s easily portable to augment your existing recording setup, or simply looking for a versatile interface you can use for vlogging and webcasting, the Sterling Audio H224 USB audio interface can slot right into whatever workflow you’ve got in mind. It’s a great combination of performance, ease-of-use and compact portability that belongs in every recordist’s bag of tricks.

Owning multiple interfaces, for the $$$, this one is awesome
I own many audio interfaces, from RME RAYDAT, FIREFACE 800 & Babyface PRO, for my 'serious' use, to UGM192, UAC-2, US-366, for 'misc' use. I bought this one to setup a mini studio on the kitchen bar. It exceed my expectations. It has 2 sets of 1/4" line outs, set of midi i/o, x2 Hi-Z instrument inputs, 2 mic/line XLR/TRS combo inputs with a push button that switches between MIC and LINE input, 48v phantom power for your condenser and cloud/active DI boxes, a big phat monitor volume knob (push the knob to mute), HPF and PADs on the mic pres, button to check MONO on the mains. 32 block buffer size. The unit is built like a tank....very solid. Comes with a quality braided USB-C to Type-A cable. The converters & preamps are what they are at this price range; they are clean, that's it. (But, for this price you can't expect $800 /ch preamps - you're probably getting $40 preamps per channel.) If you need better pres for your $1,500 conderser, this has true line inputs for your expensive pre to bypass the interface pres! ;-) I would liked to have an option in the unit's mixer software to switch the ASIO buffer size, but that can be accomplished within the DAW options itself (smallest buffer is 32). If space is a factor, as you can see from the product pics, all of the controls are on the top of the unit so you can't put a e.g. DSI MOPHO on the top of it *lol* but I like having the monitor control knob at an ergonomic reach. There have been a few users on Youtube that said that there was latency from when you turn the volume knob to when you hear the volume change. That must have been fixed because I didn't experience a problem with anything. If you are new to this 'game of audio' and looking for your first interface, then this is it. Skip the FOCUSRITE - this has waaaay more options and expand-ability, and the price is right especially when you catch it during the SDOTD (I did). It would be a 10/10 if it had ADAT light-pipe or coaxial S/PDIF i/o, but I get it, that would up the price which is already rock-bottom with the SDOTD! Overall, I'm giving this interface a 9/10 in its class. enjoy :)

hard pass if windows 10
I'll be the first to say it isn't the first time windows 10 may have been the culprit for any sound related issues or otherwise. The bottom line was that I had great expectations for this interface and with the quirky volume issues as well as long customer service wait times, I'll have to pass. It installed okay, but wouldn't work with my daw of choice initially. Once I did get it going, after an hour wait on the phone, another hour with the cs rep, then an hour on my own afterwards... it started crackling. Crackling in the daw, youtube, whatever I listened to. Is it the interface? Well, my ancient interface works and this one ... crackles. Oh well. The software that comes with it seems lame as well. The cab sim was going to be a pain to get running and an 8 track only daw? No thanks.

Awesome Budget Interface

I've been using this audio interface for over a year and it is great. It took me a little while to figure out all of the features and how to switch between everything since it's all digital. But it has worked flawlessly. I use Windows 10 and I've never experienced a "crackling" noise like that other guy complained about. Using it as an input is great with both the 1/4" and XLR inputs. The outputs to my monitors also work perfectly. Definitely something you should consider buying if you aren't trying to spend $200+ on an audio interface.

Out of all the brands of interfaces I've tried this was the best almost zero noticeable latency using Ableton live, came with a lot of good coupon codes as well. I highly recommend this interface!! #sweepstakes

Using at home only for recording guitar. Headphone volume is loud and clear. Knobs and buttons feel solid and are easy to maneuver. Good software bundle as well.

This is my first interface, and I'm happy I chose this one. This one caught my eye because of the multiple I/Os, and the price. The unit feels robust, and has a nice little heft to it. The Asio drivers work great with Windows, and I like how the XLR inputs can be used with 1/4" too. I use the level monitors much more than I thought I would, and the included trial software got me going with my guitar. Since its usb powered I can use this with my laptop without needing to find an outlet. I later got a multifx pedal that has an interface, but I prefer this one because it sounds better, and is easier to use.

I bought this on clearance and it has far exceeded my expectations. It integrates seamlessly with my desktop computer, has inputs for 2 mics, 2 instruments, midi in/out and provides phantom power if needed for condenser mics. As a bonus it includes 1 free year of Bitwig Studio 8.

Just want to make sure if this compatible with an IPad 9th generation..or do I have to buy more accessories
I’m sorry, I don’t know. I don't have one to check. The H224 is a USB-C to USB-A cable. Does your IPad 9th generation accept that?submitted2 years ago

how would this compare to the Yamaha ag03mk2? also will it be able to drive 250 ohm headphones?
1) It wouldn't. The audio would be identical but the Yamaha is 3 channel and it's a mixer. 2) Yessubmitted5 years ago
