nice xylophone for my daughter to practice on. it was very easy to set up, and the carrying bag is well made. i wish i could say the same for the mallets- they are made of cheap plastic...good customer service from guitar center.

I bought this xylophone to use in the pit orchestra when playing Musical Theater. While the general quality is acceptable, it is not a Musser or similar quality. I mainly am playing kit and doubling on mallet instruments when I physically can. The sound is not as good as rosewood or Kelon, but is does sound like a xylophone. Be careful you don't use very very hard mallets because the wooden bars can dent if you don't watch out. The keys are fastened down on only one end, so they will bounce out of position. Be quick and put them back! If xylophone is your main instrument, don't get this one, but it does work if you are going from the kit to the glock and to this instrument. For the money, it is a good purchase. Keep practicing until you can't play it wrong, and good luck.

The keys were not secured with foam or rubber bands and several of the bumper pins were loose in the box. Lucky I found them all before my daughter had to play and glued them in.. They are simply nailed in and came loose during shipping I guess. Otherwise it has a very good sound until you get to the upper register then its a little thin. Get yourself a pair of decent mallets. The ones that come with it are very cheap.

Before I purchased this product I was renting one for $60 a month. This product does not have nearly the same sound as the rental one did, however for us it's just a practice item for home (middle school percussion), and for that use it's great, well worth purchasing. Now if only I could get him to practice more....

I looked hi and low for a good alternative to my fifth grade daughters bell for percussion. This xylophone worked perfectly. Of course this is not a concert quality instrument, but it sounds and plays very well. It also is closer in size to a concert quality instrument. In short this is a great student xylophone.
