Exploring the Squier Sonic Series Mustang Models | Fender
Compact, comfortable, and easy to connect with, the Squier Sonic Mustang is built for players who value simplicity and playability without sacrificing clarity or style. A lightweight poplar body keeps the guitar balanced and manageable, while the 24" short-scale maple neck reduces string tension for an easier, more relaxed feel. The maple fingerboard adds snap and articulation to the overall tone, complementing the guitar’s responsive design. Two ceramic single-coil pickups provide clear, focused sound with enough bite to cut through a mix, making the Sonic Mustang a versatile option for practice, songwriting, and small-stage performance.
Short-Scale Maple Neck Designed for Comfort
The Sonic Mustang’s 24" scale length shortens the distance between frets, making chords easier to form and lead lines more accessible, especially for players with smaller hands or those transitioning from acoustic or short-scale instruments. A slim “C”-shaped maple neck with a smooth satin urethane finish encourages effortless movement, while narrow tall frets support clean articulation and confident bends during extended playing sessions.
Clear, Focused Tone From Dual Single-Coil Pickups
Two ceramic single-coil pickups deliver a bright, articulate voice that highlights note definition and picking dynamics. A 3-position toggle switch allows players to select the neck pickup, bridge pickup, or both together, offering tonal flexibility for rhythm work, melodic lines, or lightly driven textures. This straightforward pickup layout keeps the signal path clean and intuitive.
Simple Controls With Dependable Hardware
A 6-saddle top-load hardtail bridge provides solid intonation and tuning stability, making the Sonic Mustang easy to maintain and reliable in everyday use. Sealed die-cast tuning machines offer smooth, precise adjustments, while master volume and tone controls make it quick to shape your sound without distraction. The result is a player-friendly setup that stays focused on performance.
Durable Poplar Body With Classic Finish
The poplar body is finished in gloss polyurethane for added protection against wear while preserving a clean, modern look. Maple neck construction adds stability and brightness, and chrome-plated hardware enhances durability over time. This combination of materials ensures the Sonic Mustang holds up to regular practice, rehearsals, and casual gigging.
A Streamlined Electric Guitar That Encourages Growth
The Squier Sonic Mustang is well suited for beginners, developing players, or anyone seeking a short-scale electric guitar with a comfortable feel and clear, articulate tone. Its lightweight build, approachable neck profile, and no-nonsense electronics create a dependable platform for learning, experimenting, and building confidence as a player.

No fret sprouts. Very easy slender neck. It sounds and feels good to play. It's the best deal out there right now.

I'm just a stay at home guitar player. Saw this online at the guitar center app. Liked the look of the mustang and the color (all my guitars are red) Didn't quite know what to expect when I got it. The finish is really nice, it's very light weight and comfortable to play. I did change the stings, Didn't like what was on it. Sounds good, am very happy with it.
Beautiful Finish

Took some adjustments to get intonation right. The store I purchased it from didn't had a tech, but I took it to another store and for very littled money, he had it set. I like the feel, tone, and neck length. I use it in our church praise band. #sweepstakes
