Far exceeded expectations

The surf green bullet Mustang's sales price caught my eye online. As luck would have it, it was in stock at my local Youngstown, OH GC. With a Squier, but the same can be said of any brand, it would be my preference to try It out first. Regardless of brand there's lemons and stand outs in every bunch. This particular mustang being produced in Indonesia vs China was already giving me the warm fuzzies, so why not give it a test spin. It's primary draw for me was the 24" scale neck. Within a few minutes I knew it was coming home with me. It was a little ironic as my last Squier purchase was my very first electric guitar almost 25 years ago. Day 1 I was already envisioning buying a Fender Mustang soon. By day 3 I concluded a Fender Mustang wasn't needed. This Squier was my Mustang. I plan to and have the confidence to play it it live with zero hesitation. In regards to it's particulars, the pick ups are high output. The bridge pick up is very good and the large range of the tone knob adds flexibility to the sound particularly in the bridge position. Middle position again no complaints. The neck position is a little muddy, some of which can dial out with the tone knob, but this position is my least used anyway. I know some have had issues with the tuners. I can't say I'm experiencing similar issues. My machines have a good feel and it's holding tune rather well. The plastic nut leaves a little to be desired but nothing some graphite didn't remedy. The bridge is perfecto. But the true standout of the guitar is the neck. I can't believe it's taken me this long to play a 24" scale. It's fast, comfortable, and bends easier than any electric I've played. The finish is flawless as is the 3 ply pick guard. I'm trying to come up with a negative but I'd be splitting hairs. I'm stunned I'm in love with a Squier. It sounds amazing and is a great addition to my arsenal.

Jury is Still Out...

This is the third Squier brand guitar that I've owned, and the first with craftsmanship issues. The neck wasn't finished well, it wasn't sanded smooth, so it scrapes across my hand when I play the guitar. The string trees are all bent out of shape, and will need to be replaced. Also, the neck and fretboard are bone dry, and need to be oiled. Apart from the neck having not been finished well, the rest of the guitar seems fine. I love the tone of the pickups, the body looks good, and it's a nice lightweight guitar. I have to mark it down for the unfinished neck though, because it will take me some time to sand the scratchy bits off to make it comfortable, I'll have to replace the bent up string trees, and I didn't have to do either of those things with my other Squier guitars. If our state weren't currently snowed-in, I would take it to my local Guitar Center to let their guitar tech smooth-out the neck for me, and replace the bent up string trees, but I'm hoping to figure it out myself. So, I like the guitar, but it might bother some people to have to do their own finishing work on the neck of a guitar that is brand new.

It is not very heavy, which for me is a plus, and the shorter scale was nice. This guitar apparently has a common issue with the tone not working unless the volume is all the way up. An easy fix with a soldering iron (an on line search will tell you how to fix). The fix did change the volume a bit but not a big issue. Overall, happy with the guitar.

I bought this guitar on sale in 2020. Had it for a while now and still play it daily, along side my American Deluxe and Mexican Fender Strat. As my header says, excellent starter guitar, whether you are a beginner or confident enough to do your own mods. Altogether out of the box the guitar was great, compliments to Guitar Center's Shipping. Easy to use and decent set up and finish. Do not hesitate to pick one up if you're on the fence. As for the modding, I did a few simple changes early on such as a new pick-guard and bridge, new tuning keys and sanded the neck a little. After another year I did a full re-do with all new hardware and pickups/wiring. It's amazing what you can do with this guitar. I would be proud to put mine up against most guitars for comparison. Again, if you think you want it, just order it. You won't be disappointed.

I'm 13 I've been using this guitar for 3 an it plays like its brand new! I haven't had any problems with it when it comes to playing. But I will say this guitar is a good project. 2 years after getting it I gave it a new pick guard and put some try oil on the neck and head stock. I would recommend Super Slinky strings for this guitar though. Highly suggest 10/10.

Great buy for me. Bought the white version but returned it due to a big gap on the neck. Replaced it with the seafoam green with acceptable neck gap. Have it professionally set up and smoothen the sharp frets. Action was lowered and properly intonated. I'm a beginner and I like the feel of the indian laurel fretboard, I now prefer rosewood or ferro. PU are great for me. I initially intended it to be my mod/experiment guitar. But it plays great. Decided not to mess with it. I built a cheap unnamed guitar instead from scratch to learn set up, fret work etc.

Fender will switch the wood. It should not be a concern as they are virtually indistinguishable
