The best for loop-based music.

The first use of computers for audio and music was MIDI sequencing. Shortly after that, came scoring software, often integrated with a MIDI sequencing program. After a few years, really powerful computers (at that time) could actually record a few tracks of audio. Multitrack recording software started to slowly gain MIDI sequencing functionality and MIDI sequencing software started to gain multitrack recording functionality. And then came Acid, the original loop-based audio creation software. By that time, most of the MIDI sequencing packages could do just about all recording tasks and the recording software could do most of the MIDI sequencing tasks. Acid was unique for quite some time. Nowadays, just about every music software package can do all three: recording, MIDI, and loop-based music. However, if loop-based music is your primary focus, I believe that Acid still does that the best and although each new release improves recording and MIDI features, Acid has always been true to it's loop-based roots and is the innovator when it comes to loop-based functionality. So, although you can do loop-based music with other software, my recommendation is to stick with the innovator if loops are your primary focus. Even though I own Sonar 5 Producer Edition, I still use Acid for all my songs that originate from loops. When you use the right tool, the job is so much easier: Acid is the right tool when your song begins with loops.
