Awesome craftmanship and wonderful sound. The active EQ is a killer. Even plugging in directly to a hifi (with 12 inch woofers) sounded great. I am new to bass (composer, producer, keyboards) but have some guitar skills. I could start playing right away. The experience was so rewarding. I totally love this bass.

I got this bass a few days ago and I really like it overall. I will give an honest opinion, and try to be as straightforward as I can be. I often hear this bass compared to Fender basses (which it is very Fender-like TBH) and I've read reviews that say this bass will hold it's own against MIA Fender basses as far as quality and construction. I've owned Fender MIA basses and I will tell you that, out of the box, that is not true in my opinion. Does this mean this is a bad bass? Absolutely not, but it's not on par with an MIA Fender, which is at least twice the price and often significantly more than that. What I like about this bass? It has a good sound and overall a great feel for a unit at this price point. Very chunky neck, which is pretty well made, rolled edges are really nice and I think rare at this price, and I'm impressed with the overall fretwork, although the edges could certainly have been filed better and been smoother (they are a little sharp at the sides of the neck). I haven't found a single fret buzzing on any string anywhere, and I haven't found any dead spots that I can tell. The body is classic P bass, the bridge is solid, conventional Fender-style (with thru-body stringing option), and it's definitely one of the better feeling low B's I've played on a 34" scale (they all seem different). The active preamp is fairly versatile, although on my bass one thing I don't like is the pickup blend, which seems to be more like a 3-way switch that brings on the neck or bridge pickup almost 100% once you move it at all from the center point. There doesn't seem to be much in the way of "blend" in either direction from what I can tell. The EQ works great, and you can dial in an awful lot of tones between this and the pickup control. The overall fit and finish is really decent. What I don't like; the bass is super-heavy. I guess that's to be expected given what it is, but maybe that's part of what gives it the sound and overall feel. I don't like the fret edges very much. They're not the worst I've ever had on a bass, but they aren't good. Could be a result of fretboard shrinking due to lack of humidity maybe, I don't know. The tuners feel pretty standard and not bad, but not as smooth as I'd like them to be. 18V preamp might be a turnoff to some people. Factory out-of-box setup was certainly not my cup of tea, action was set incredibly high and intonation was off quite a bit, although not as bad as I feared it would be. I did spend some time setting neck relief (which was actually somewhat close), intonation, and lowering the string height. This is really a personal preference, though. Bottom line, this is a very competent bass and worth the asking price for everything you get. I'm going to send it out to a tech and have the fret edges fixed, which I hope doesn't set me back a ton of $. I think if you buy this bass, spend a few bucks to have some of the factory issues corrected, maybe have it set up to your liking, you wind up a a very decent Fender PJ clone with an active preamp that will hold it's own very easily in live band or recording situations for quite a bit less money than the "real deal". If you're a gigging musician who doesn't want to bring along your high-dollar Fender, but want one that works as a good substitute for a lot less money, this may be just for you. It looks cool, it feels pretty good, and it won't break the bank. I would recommend this to people who like these types of basses.

This is a very versatile and well constructed base. Between the active and passive modes it provides a wide variety of playing preferences.
