The sensitivity seems to be an on and off thing with the kit. Many ghost notes get lost in the performance of it. Cheap built shows as my snare developed a cut through the first layer of the mesh head already. (I use nylon tip 5B sticks which shouldn't have done that). Some of the sounds are ok but most are somewhat cheap and the balance of the kit sound (without spending lots of time tweaking and so forth) is not that good. The double stick glue on the velcro pads that come with the pedals comes off and your pedal will glide all over the place. The kit may be a good deal because of the price point but don't expect much, specially if you ever played on a real good electronic kit like the Roland.

Comments about Simmons SD550 Electronic Drum Set with Mesh Pads:

This drumset is CAT compatible which means' i plug my CAT into the drum module, and now my drum sound like a CAT. Also my CAT can sit on the ride cymbal and meow, But it's hardware is cheap especially the CAT clamps that holds your CAT in place

Comments about Simmons SD550 Electronic Drum Set with Mesh Pads:

I agree with Grant. The strikes of the bass pedal are lame. I tested the set out at a local guitar center and being a punk rock drummer this bass pedal picked up only maybe every other 3-5th strike. I don't understand how Simmons can call themselves the leader. I was planning on buying this set and walked away instantly.

Comments about Simmons SD550 Electronic Drum Set with Mesh Pads:

For the price these are real decent drums. The hardware isn't the sturdiest but it has a very small profile. The only real complaint I have is the cymbals. You get one ride sound and one crash sound. It's a great kit for practice but if I was gonna use it live I might use acoustic cymbals.

OTHEWISE, THE KIT IS PRETTY AWESOME FOR ITS PRICE. HARDWARE IS ALL VERY HIGH QUALITY FEELING, WHEN TIGHTENED AND SET UP CORRECTLY.

Comments about Simmons SD550 Electronic Drum Set with Mesh Pads:

I recently purchased this at the Danbury, CT location. I had been watching sale prices online and when I saw what I was interested in I went and checked them out. I've purchased quite a bit from them (and other Guitar Center in years passed locations) so they have a vague idea of what I am looking for. Every employee has helped me out to thei best of their abilities, and I have talked to most of them at some point, or has steered me to someone that knew more about particular products if need be. Even the manager has been helpful in providing service. It is nice knowing that when something goes wrong, as things occasionally do, it will be fixed. They have proved that out in the past.
                  - I will add to the review after Christmas and the kids (and myself) have used it a bit.

I use these for recording my own music and they have a real sound that I like plus extra sounds that can be utilized. i had an inexpensive set of Alesis before that I thought were pretty good but these Simmons really do the trick, more clear and responsive. love them and would definitely recommend them. plus living in apartment makes them usable any time. I been playing drums for over 40 years, the next best thiing to actual tubs.
