  • GSM Resistant, No Cell Phone interferance--well none to worry about

I video tape Depositions, these mics are perfect. GSM cell phones, (all carriers except Sprint and Verizon) have always been a problem with creating interference on my old lavaliers. I did a little research and found that Shure has a line of mics that are GSM Resistant. They are RIGHT! Since I started using these mics (6 times at this time) I have had only one instance where I knew a cell phone was receiving, and it was barely audible, no body will ever complain. In this instance an IPhone was sitting a couple inches away from the cable for the MX183. To get noticeable interference the mic and the GSM cell phone have to be touching. This is almost heaven, and very workable. These mics sound great for Voice, eq response is great with High Pass filter on the field mixer. Output on these mics with the belt preamp is hot, if using a field mixer, input gain control is important to deal with loud voices. Size of these mics is lot bigger than a match head, so these are not the best for hiding in talents clothing. On the mic body the cable exits out the side on the bottom, so you have to deal with this, but the bottom screws off so fixing the cable should be easy when it shorts out from wear. And one more detail, the Shure's Lav mic clips are the best, the clips are designed to rotate around the wire that holds the mic, allows for easy rotation to clip to a man's shirt or woman's shirt, or any other angle. Also the clips have no sharp edges/spikes that would tear a tie, it will slide off when the wearer stands up, very very practical. If I would have had these mics 5 years ago I would have had fewer Lawyers mad at me because I had to make them POWER DOWN their cell phones, and would have made more money because I would have not lost clients. Not knowing about these mics was penny wise and pound foolish.
