Seymour Duncan SA-3SC Woody Single-Coil Acoustic Soundhole Pickup - Maple

Description
The Seymour Duncan Woody SC single-coil soundhole pickup gives acoustic guitarists an affordable way to amplify their instrument without sacrificing its natural warmth and resonance. Designed with singer-songwriters and folk players in mind, the Woody SC provides moderate gain to blend evenly with vocals while preserving the guitar's acoustic character.
Single-Coil Clarity With Body and Depth
The Woody SC's single-coil design delivers a clear, articulate tone with rich lows and sparkling highs. Its moderate output means no unwanted distortion, even when played aggressively, allowing dynamic fingerstylists to capture the nuances of their technique. For strummers, the Woody SC provides enough volume to fill a room without overpowering other instruments. Overall, the pickup's tone has a natural, uncolored quality that meshes beautifully with the sound of an acoustic guitar.
Quick-Mount Installs in Seconds
The Woody SC installs instantly in most standard acoustic guitar soundholes ranging from 3.75" to 4" in diameter. No soldering or modification to your guitar is required. Simply plug the included 14' cable into your amplifier or PA and you're ready to perform. For players who regularly switch between multiple acoustics, the Woody SC's quick-mount design makes it easy to move the pickup between guitars as needed.
Handcrafted Maple Housing and Double-Potted Coils
The Woody SC's maple cover is hand-polished for an attractive appearance and the pickup's coils are double-potted in epoxy to prevent unwanted feedback and handling noise. Even at high stage volumes, the Woody SC remains well-behaved. For recording, its inherent quietness provides a clean signal path for capturing the subtleties of your acoustic guitar's tone without audible buzz or hum.
An Affordable Solution for Acoustic Amplification
For budget-conscious singer-songwriters and acoustic folk artists seeking amplification, the Seymour Duncan Woody SC offers an affordable alternative to expensive microphone and preamp systems. Its combination of great tone, feedback resistance and ease of use provides an ideal solution for small to mid-sized venues where high-quality acoustic tone is a must.

Woody thats complements your acoustic guitar
This pickup is truely a wonderful experience for me as it has immensely improved the amplified sound of my Fender 12 string & Yamaha acoustic guitars. It has a very bright but warm and well balanced sound. The output you get from it very dynamic and so natural. I used it even with my Hi Fi system and it just produces amazing sound quality with lot of natural warmth and clarity with almost no feedback at high volume unless you are sitting very close to amp. My friends are amazed with the sound it produces. It has a very nice finishing with real maple wood enveloping the magnets so beautifully thats it just looks like a part of your guitar. I even used some effects pedals and it justified all of them remarkably. The cable is of high quality with a metal high quality jack so no problem faced to me so far. The pickup has slots with very durable and soft sponge type pads to prevent your valuable guitar sound hole from scratches. It can comes on and go off very easily in minutes. The pickup unit is very solid indeed as it does not feel like a toy but has got the guts to handle and face all the rough handling while using at home or on the road. I think no one should miss this incredible stuff as it can even make a cheap acoustic guitar sound like pros. Now please do not think over and over again, simply go and get it. Thanks & regards.

Sounds Great, But Hums a Little
If I were rating purely on sound, I'd give this pickup a full 5 stars. But there is a significant amount of hum if you're not sitting EXACTLY in a particular position in relation to your amp; then the hum goes away completely. I have another acoustic with active pickup (bult-in, came installed). I don't have a hum problem with that guitar, regardless of how much I move around, regardless of the position of the pickup in relation to the amp. I'm a believer in Seymour Duncan's products, and want to give him the benefit of the doubt, so I've ordered the HC version to see if this might alleviate the hum issue; I'm expecting it probably will, and I'll just return the SC version for a refund from Guitar Center. Not having a volume control on the unit is a bit limiting, but TONE is the main thing, and the tone is BEAUTIFUL! I can always get a volume pedal, or make sure to have amp PA controls within arm's reach. I don't know what kind of strumming some of the reviewers do, but I didn't find the cord to be in the way. AT ALL. It trails away, downward and out of the way; maybe they're not installing it correctly? That's the only thing I can think of. One reviewer commented that it wasn't loud enough without a pre-amp, again I don't see the problem, if plugged into a guitar amp or PA 1/4" phone out; both of those have a VOLUME control. What seems like a possibly bigger issue in certain settings is that since the pickup's in the soundhole, you can't install a soundhole plug, so at a certain volume, you're gonna hit a "ceiling" anyway regarding volume: you're gonna get feedback if your on-stage volume is too high. Just keep the monitor volume as much as possible, and crank it through the Mains. Bottom line: If you stay in one position and don't move around a lot, such as being seated (as a lot of acoustic players do) you probably won't find the hum objectionable, as you can position yourself to nullify that. If you tend to move around a lot while playing, you're gonna have a hum problem, noticeable especially during quieter passages. I'm hoping the hum-cancelling version will take care of that limitation. If it doesn't, I'll probably still go with a Seymour Duncan, and keep the SC ($10 less than HC). Cuz like I said, you can't beat the TONE! And tone is EVERYTHING.

We plugged this into a DI then into our board, and it sounded great! It did not feed back, and was warm and full sounding. For a passive pickup, I have no complaints. If I had any wishes for this device would be a volume pot, but if plugged into a tuner pedal, it gives the function of muting it. For a budget pickup, this is a perfect buy!

I used it for a gig in a pinch. Seems to work, was a better choice than miking the acoustic (I tried). I would recommend this pickup as an affordable option for gigs and small shows for any custom without built in electronics.
Amazing tone and sound. Perfect 💯💯

My main guitar broke and I needed a pickup for my spare to use leading music at a weeklong youth camp. This sounded great. I used it both plugged in direct as well as with a LR Baggs preamp. Both ways sounded great. The preamp obviously gave it more gain.
Love it.

Will this fit a 3.2 inch hole for a small nylon guitar???
Fits all standard soundholes (3.75″ (94mm) to 4.0″ (100mm), but the issue I can see is that ti's designed for steel strings since it's a magnetic pickup.submitted4 years ago
