Schecter Guitar Research

collapse expand iconDescription

The Schecter Damien Platinum 8-String Electric Guitar has a double-cutaway mahogany body, set 3-pc maple neck w/carbon fiber reinforcement rods, and a 24-fret rosewood fingerboard. It's loaded with powerful EMG-808 active humbuckers that are designed especially for 8-string guitars for all the heavy rock tones you need. Grover tuning machines with a TonePros tune-o-matic bridge provide tuning stability and tonal sustain. The electric guitar's appointments include bat inlays, multi-ply fretboard and body binding, and satin chrome hardware.

Grover tuners
ROTOMATICS WITH 18:1 GEAR RATIO (102-18 SERIES) The original Rotomatic with an improved higher ratio gearing. The 18:1 ratio provides for finer tuning and greater stability. The finer gears provide smoother tuning and a higher degree of backlash elimination

Rosewood fingerboard
The most common fretboard, Rosewood is naturally oily, and works well for any surface that sees frequent human contact. The sound is richer in fundamental than Maple because the stray overtones are absorbed into the oily pores.

EMG Active 808 pickups
The 707 has been leading the pack of 7-string guitar pickups since its debut in 2001, and is now available for the 8-String! Before this model was introduced, existing 8-string pickups sounded muddy and dull on the low F# string, especially when trying to hit artificial and natural harmonics, but the 808 eliminates all those problems. Featuring Alnico V loaded wide aperture coils we were able to beef up that Low F# tone and at the same time provide a more responsive super tight overall sound.

3-pc Maple neck w/carbon fiber reinforcement rods
Made with 3 pieces of maple for extra stability. Where standard necks may show aging defects from temperature and moisture changes throughout the years, the 3 piece neck will stay nice and straight for a lifetime of playability. Two Carbon Fiber Rods are installed next to the Truss Rod for extra stability. Stronger than an equivalent volume of steel, Carbon Fiber adds little weight, but adds significant stiffness.

This guitar is fantastic. It is easy to play and the extra wide neck doesn't get in the way. It stays in tune for weeks! This baby sounds brutal.

I got this guitar in January 2020 after doing about two months of research on 8 strings. I got this in slightly used condition for 500 and I was not disappointed. This guitar is extremely convenient and durable. It has good sustain, so you can forget about tuning it every couple of days. The sound is great, especially considering the fact that most of my gear is from 90s/ early 2000s. I can't point at any flaws except the fact that 28" scale is not for everyone. If your hands are small, do not buy this. Save some money and get hellraiser because it has shorter scale. Other than that, the instrument is excellent. If you want to upgrade from cheaper 8 string or you never had 8 string before and want to find something relatively cheap and good at the same time, consider this guitar. 10/10 good job, Schecter.

This is a beautiful guitar that is made well and built to last. When I got it, it was already set up perfect. Didn't need the wonderful GC staff to do anything to it. Just threw in a fresh battery for the EMG's and started playing. The tone from this thing is absolutely amazing. I run it through my interface to BIAS FX and the sounds this thing can make are unbelievable. Get a high gain amp and a TSE 808 and its the heaviest, thickest, most monstrous tone you could ask for. Get a low-gain amp and roll back the gain and she does cleans better than any Fender I've ever heard. The only reason for the 4 star rating, and also the reason I might be trading it in, is the neck. The 28" scale is just too big for my relatively small hands. I know Ibanez and Schecter make a few 8 strings in a 27 or 26.5 scale. This might be better for me as it is closer at least to a 6 or 7 string neck. It is difficult for me to reach around the huge fretboard to do everything I want, so if this is a problem for you, this is not the guitar for you. However, if not, this guitar is perfect. No flaws.
