Roland

collapse expand iconDescription

The RP-701 digital home piano from Roland brings the sound and touch of an acoustic piano into your living room. Its SuperNATURAL sound engine faithfully reproduces the tone of a concert grand, from the subtlest harmonics to the mightiest fortes. The PHA-4 Standard keyboard not only has weighted keys for an authentic playing feel, but also escapement for recreating the "click" of hammers striking strings. Whether you're a beginner or an experienced pianist, the RP-701 inspires you to play.

SuperNATURAL Sound Engine Delivers Nuanced Acoustic Tone

At the heart of the RP-701 is Roland's powerful SuperNATURAL modeling technology, which samples actual acoustic pianos to capture the complex harmonic interactions within and between notes. The result is rich, expressive sound that responds naturally to your touch. From the resonant bass notes to the bell-like high end, the RP-701 mirrors the tone you'd hear from a world-class concert piano.

PHA-4 Standard Keyboard Offers Weighted Touch and Escapement

The RP-701 features Roland's PHA-4 Standard keyboard, which has weighted keys to provide the responsive feel of hammer-struck strings. It also incorporates escapement, which recreates the subtle "click" you feel at the end of each key's travel. Escapement gives experienced pianists more control over tone and expression. The Ivory Feel keys are also textured for grip and comfort over long practice sessions.

Intuitive, Interactive Controls Appeal to All Skill Levels

The RP-701 simplifies exploring its capabilities with a streamlined control panel and LCD screen. Easy-to-read labels and icons allow musicians of any age to start playing right away. Onboard songs, rhythms and recording functions encourage creativity, while Bluetooth connectivity provides access to streaming music and piano education apps. When you want to focus solely on the keyboard, just slide the lid over the control panel.

Classic Cabinet Design Complements Any Décor

While the RP-701 produces state-of-the-art digital sound, its cabinetry has the elegant lines of an acoustic upright. Available in dark rosewood, light oak, white or black, the RP-701's compact footprint lets it fit comfortably in homes of all sizes. Twin speakers provide powerful, resonant sound to fill your space with music. For private practice, the headphones output recreates the experience of playing in a concert hall.

I am using this product to learn the piano. The first thing I noticed was the main control knob which is the only selection knob does not work correctly. If you go to the Roland website they have a repair, you flash the bios and it will fix it. The second thing is the keys don't always play depending on your style of press. If you turn off the weighted keys then it plays fine but only at one volume. And finally my F4 key has a noticeable "click" when it is released which throws off my tempo. Two or three other keys have on occasion made that same click but much softer but still noticeable now that I am listening for it.

We've only had this piano a week. My son has been playing for about 18 months and was using a Casio CDP 120. Our piano teacher was strongly suggesting we get something better. Our son plays on a Baby Grand for his lessons, so the biggest priority for us was to get a piano with the closest action to an acoustic piano. Roland pianos consistently seemed to be considered the best action you could get in our $1500 price range, due to the 3 sensors and escapement in their key action. Our piano teacher who is also our next store neighbor came over to check it out and liked the tone and feel, although the default key actions seemed a little heavy, but the key touch has 100 levels of adjustment and we found the sweet spot. In the end I probably would have been happy with one of the FP series or the F701, but we decided we liked the look of a home piano better. This piano works with the Piano Everyday app, and not the Piano Partner 2 app. This is fine, but I see a great deal of confusion among buyers of this piano. The reviews for the app from the apps store are not great, but honestly, I haven't had a single issue getting the piano to work with the app. The app functions well in my opinion but is just plain ugly as far as modern apps go. I want to address an issue I see in the Q&A section for this piano. Several questions are asking if there is a piano bench included with this piano. The replied answer says no, but that is wrong. It does come with a bench…. It's adjustable and VERY sturdy. It's packaged inside the box not a separate box. The only con I have is cosmetic. We purchased the black model, which is quite nice looking but shows fingerprints and dust. If I could do it over again, I'd choose a different color. I also emailed Roland support with a question. They replied within 1.5 hours and resolved my question. I was very impressed with the response time. Overall we are happy with the piano. The delivery was great. I ordered it online Friday afternoon and it was at my door by Monday morning. The delivery guy was very nice and helpful.

I purchased the RP-701 in White, as an Open Box item listed here on Guitar Center's site. I've owned a Yamaha Clavinova for about 5 years, which I love, but purchased this Roland for my mom's apartment so I could play the piano while I'm visiting. This is an amazing digital piano. I visited the Roland booth at the CES (Consumer Electronics Show) in 2018 and played their Kiyola digital piano, which is very similar to this model, and was impressed back then with the quality. Just recently, I remembered playing that piano at CES and looked up Roland's digital pianos and found this one. While the RP-701 does require some assembly, and must be done with two people, it took us about 15 minutes to put together (attaching the legs, pedal board, back piece, music stand, and assemble piano bench). I was originally considering the light oak, but the white was in stock, and it looks absolutely beautiful. In terms of sound quality, the RP-701 is amazing. The Roland SUPERNATURAL action of the keys is eerily similar to an acoustic piano. It actually feels like there are real piano strings reverberating as I hit the keys. To be honest, I prefer the action of this Roland more than my Yamaha Clavinova. I've played the piano for almost 30 years now, and have taught privately for about 20 years, and I'm extremely impressed with the quality of this product. It was also 1/4 of the price of what I paid for my Yamaha Clavinova, too. While this piano doesn't have wheels, it's light enough to be carried by two people and moved if necessary, however, I wouldn't move it around often - the legs may loosen. Aside from that, the white wood finish of this piano is stunning. It looks very similar to a compact-sized Spinet piano. It looks beautiful in my mom's living room. The variety of piano/synth/organ/etc. sounds is impressive. The digital display and power buttons are also very sleek and elegant, and quite intuitive. The music stand also has little plastic pegs that pop up, intended to keep sheet music in place. I really appreciate little details like that. I've had this piano for about a week, and playing it has brought me so much joy. I hope that these will be back in stock soon so that more people can order them and enjoy them in their homes. The piano also has Bluetooth connectivity, so users can pair their smartphone or tablet to the piano and play music through its speakers. I haven't tried that yet, but that's a nice feature to have - it goes beyond just being a digital piano. My Yamaha Clavinova CLP-585 doesn't have that. This is an affordable alternative to an acoustic piano and I'm really blown away by the superior quality. Really impressive job, Roland. Thank you.
