Roland MICRO CUBE GX

Roland MICRO CUBE GX

Roland

Description

The Roland 3W 1x5" MICRO CUBE GX combo amp gives you the same tone and versatility that you've come to know and love in the CUBE Series, and puts it in a battery-powered package that you can take anywhere. It features recording/headphones output and stereo AUX input for MP3/CD players, etc. The MICRO CUBE GX can be powered on batteries (LR6 AA type x 6, sold separately) or a supplied AC adapter. It also includes a carrying strap.

Rock for Hours on Batteries
The MICRO CUBE GX features the same ultracompact footprint, battery-powered operation, and big tone that made the original MICRO CUBE such a massive hit around the globe. With up to 25 hours of playing time using six NiMH AA-size batteries, you can enjoy uninterrupted fun while jamming at home, at the beach, on camping trips, at parties—wherever. Increased power output delivers even better performance than before, and a chromatic tuner is built in, eliminating the need to carry an external tuner when you play.

8 Classic and Modern Amp Models
Filled with Roland's renowned COSM amps, the MICRO CUBE GX provides tones for playing any musical style, from ultraclean jazz to heavy rock and everything in between. The newly added Extreme amp kicks things up a notch, giving you a massive voice for crushing, in-your-face metal riffs. There's also a MIC setting for using the amp with a vocal microphone. Five different EFX types are available to sweeten your sound, with a new Heavy Octave effect that works great for adding unique, ultralow power to distorted tones. An independent Delay/Reverb processor is onboard as well, with a newly added spring reverb option for authentic surf and roots-rock sounds.

High-Quality Effects
There's no need to lug around pedals when the MICRO CUBE GX comes with eight DSP effects. All the essentials are included-from chorus and flanging to a phaser and tremolo effect. A separate Delay/Reverb processor lets you dial in anything from slapback and long delays to reverb and more (in addition to using one of the aforementioned modulation effects).

Total Recall
The new Memory function turns the MICRO CUBE GX into a dual-channel amp, greatly increasing its versatility. It couldn't be simpler to use—just dial up the amp tone and effects you want, hold the Memory button for a few seconds, and your settings are saved. After that, you can toggle between the saved setup and the current knob settings with a quick button press. Use it for saving a favorite sound, switching between rhythm and lead tones, or calling up a special sound for a particular song or style.

A great battery powered amplifier :)

I recently purchased a Roland Micro Cube GX from Guitar Center, as well as an Audio-Technica ATR-35S lavalier microphone (from elsewhere on the Internet). This combo really sounds nice for the Ocarina, Native American Flute, and Recorder :) The amplifier features several audio effects, including reverb and chorus. The reverb really sounds nice for Ocarina/Native American Flute/Recorder playing. Several of the effects are distortion and overdrive, which isn't really usable for the above instruments, but it is quite useful for my blues harmonicas (to get that "dirty" blues harmonica sound). I also purchased an American DJ F2 Par bag (from elsewhere on the Internet) to tote the amplifier and accessories around in, as well as a set of spare tie clips and foam windscreens for the Audio-Technica ATR-35S lavalier microphone, just to have a few extras on hand.

Somewhat disappointed

I had the old Micro Cube 4 years and used it on small gigs with my acoustic guitar. It was great. Saw ad for new Microcube, so I traded in the old model for this new one. It arrived and I noticed it was much lighter in weight than the old model. I loved the on/off switch on the new model. It was on top, not in the back of the unit. In the dimly lit clubs I worked in, I had a hard time finding that little on/off button. I tried to open the battery cover to put in the batteries. You have to push down on two plastic tabs. At first I could not get it opened. When I pried it open, I noticed that the battery cover was thin plastic, not a heavier well made one like on the original. The old cover closed like a door on a Rolls Royce. I noted the printed lettering on the controls was printed very small, much small than the easy to see lettering on the old model. I had to squint to see the lettering on the controls. I was disappointed with the sound as well. Looks like this unit has a bit more power, but the quality of sound was not as good as the old model in my opinion. I returned it and bought the Street Cube by Roland. Roland makes great amps but I think they cut corners to make the newer model less expensive to make. There was nothing wrong with the old model. I will look for another old model soon.

Absolutely loved this amp until one year and ten days later all effects functions such as gain, amp type, flanger etc stopped working. No change I make has any effect at all. None. This amp has remained indoors in an AC controlled environment for nearly the entire year. This is a problem of either design, manufacture, or poor quality parts. DO NOT BUY

  • Excellent practice amp.

Hey gang, I have both the Katana Mini and this. I bought the Katana Mini for my son a few weeks ago and wanted to get something similar for myself. I was mainly looking for something convenient to use which also had good sound. I almost got another Katana Mini but so glad I got this instead. Although the Micro Cube is small, the Katana Mini is even smaller and lighter. I initially though the Micro Cube was a bit too heavy for what I wanted (throwing it on my computer desk) but it sounds SOOOOOOO good. I can't describe how good it sounds, videos do not do it justice. It is just much much more versatile than the Katana Mini. It has more and better effects, and it sounds girthy'er in every way (including distortion/gain/overdrive). I would recommend both, but if I had to pick one, I'd get the Micro Cube, it's just more substantial all around, while still retaining most of the convenience of the Katana Mini. If I were going to throw one in a backpack though, it would definitely be the Katana Mini.
