Overview

The JC-40 Jazz Chorus delivers Roland' renowned "JC clean" tone and signature stereo chorus effect in a compact combo amp with evolved features for the modern guitarist. Like the flagship JC-120 amp that it's based on, the JC-40 offers a classic stereo clean sound that' a perfect palette for tone shaping with stompbox effects. Now, there's also a true stereo input for enhanced performance with stereo effects pedals, guitar synths, amp modeling gear, and multi-effects. In addition, the JC-40's onboard effects include newly added features and updated sounds to support the needs of today' players.

JC Clean: The Benchmark in Clean Guitar Tone
For 40 years, players around the world have revered the iconic clean voice and huge stereo sound of the JC-120 Jazz Chorus amplifier. With the JC-40, you can now enjoy the genuine industry-standard tone in a scaled-down amp with innovative modern refinements. Two independent power amps and custom-designed 10" speakers deliver punchy stereo sound that won't get buried in the band, while durable, road-tough construction ensures years of reliable operation on stage and in the studio.

Famous Stereo Chorus and Other Effects
Beyond its stellar clean tone, the JC-40 includes onboard effects, all newly refreshed for enhanced performance. The trademark Dimensional Space Chorus stereo effect fills the stage with immersive 3D sound, and now offers selectable fixed or manual modes for increased tonal range. Renewed vibrato and reverb effects are on hand, and both operate in stereo for rich, deep performance. There's built-in distortion as well, updated with a smooth, satisfying tone that' great for all types of music.

Stereo Input for Multi-Effects, Modelers, and Synths
With its front-panel stereo input, the JC-40 allows players who use stereo effects devices to achieve wide, inspiring sound without having to carry around two separate amps. The amp' rich clean tone lets you get the most out of external stereo pedals like delays, reverbs, and various modulation effects. It' also perfectly suited for advanced gear that employs amp modeling, multi-effects, and/or synth capabilities, such as the GT-100, GP-10, and ME-80 from BOSS and GR-55 guitar synth from Roland.

Ideal for Pedal-Based Players
If you create your sound with stompbox pedals, there' no better platform than the classic JC clean amp. The rich, neutral sound won™t color your basic guitar tone, perfect for hearing exactly what your pedals put out.

Get Connected
The JC-40' rear panel is filled with connectivity options. There's an effects loop for patching in mono or stereo effects, and you even have your choice of serial or parallel operation. Line Out jacks give you a convenient mono or stereo feed to a mixing board or recorder, while the headphones jack is great for quiet practicing with your setup late at night or on the road. There's also support for optional footswitches, allowing you to easily turn the JC-40's chorus/vibrato, reverb, and distortion effects on/off while performing.

NO COMPLAINTS. IMOP the best solid state amp ever made by ANY company !! Loves pedals. Very portable and so good looking.Got a great coupon deal. Best amp purchase I have ever made ,including high -end tube amps, which I also love and still have;but this little tone beast is incredible !! I could go on forever praising this JC-40 ,but need to get back to playing Jazz on it.My Princeton Reverb 1 x 12 , Deluxe Reverb 65, and Blues Jr III NOS are jealous and have not been turned on in a week ,since I bought this one. Guitar Center had it shipped in and it arrived in 3 days in perfect condition. Check it out and be marveled.

Comments about Roland JC-40 40W 2x10 Jazz Chorus Guitar Combo Amp:

I use my JC40 with a Line 6 POD XT, and I get great clean tones from the JC and superb modeling reproduction using the JC as blank palette. The ONLY drawback I have found is a persistent hiss that comes from the amplifier when it is on. It does not matter if the guitar is plugged in or not, or if the volume is high or low. The hiss is always there. Once the music get going you can not hear it, but you will need to shut it off when taking breaks, as it becomes noticable when non other sounds are going. I have tube amps and yes they sound great. But for half the price and half the weight, I am very happy with my SS JC40.

Comments about Roland JC-40 40W 2x10 Jazz Chorus Guitar Combo Amp:

A great rehearsal, recording, and song writing inspirational amp. It is not a bluesy sounding tube style amp, but more for that British pristine, shimmery, chorus sound of the 80's which still sounds timeless. It will add a new dimension to your palette of sound choices. Run a Rickenbacher thru it and you will smile! Like no other!

Comments about Roland JC-40 40W 2x10 Jazz Chorus Guitar Combo Amp:

I play with a keyboard player for small gigs--wineries, small bars, etc. and I needed a small Roland amp to play my Rickenbacker 12-string and Fender strat through. I have a Roland JC-120 but it is too big and heavy for what I need. This amp is perfect. It has all the power I need and the effects sound amazing. I just can't play it enough. This amp solved all my problems. I use the vibrato and chorus most of the time. I even play my electric-acoustic through it. There is no feedback or any other problems associated with acoustics. I would highly recommend this amp to anyone in the market for a great amp with great sound for small venues.

Comments about Roland JC-40 40W 2x10 Jazz Chorus Guitar Combo Amp:

This amp has that exact same beautiful Clean & Chorus that the JC-120 is known for, but in a smaller package. The 40 watts is plenty for a small club, and more than perfect for home practice. (Has headphone out so your significant other won't hear you.) The dual, independent power amps and 10" speakers are pretty solid. The "distortion" is OK, but you'll need a pedal.

If you play acoustics though the amp, you still retain a 95% of the character of the guitar, until you start adding chorus (naturally).

Lots of features and room to grow with this amp. If you are ALREADY a professional, this is for you if you need clean cleans, or a starting point with pristine clean before you add your effects, etc. This amp is a steal for the money!

lived up to my expectations. Lovely lush stereo chorus. Lovely clean sound, not too clinical.

Slightly more noisy that my previous amp (roland cube) but not much

Downside - I might bore audience to death with over use of chorus

Yet to experiment with stereo effects loop.

Sounded awesome with ehx lester g into it stero input - to die for.

Comments about Roland JC-40 40W 2x10 Jazz Chorus Guitar Combo Amp:

Great amp, really worth considering if you want to break out of the "gotta have a tube amp mentality" this amp will keep you honest. If you are looking at this amp, do not mention distortion in the same sentence. The best thing I like about this amp is that it is not transparent and it does not have the midrange bump of most guitar amps. That is a difficult concept to achieve when it comes to clean guitar amplification. This is not a flat amp/not for acoustic either. This is for your neck position or in between position sounds all day. The chorus is very seductive. Some hiss is present just like the old ones. Very loud amp!

Comments about Roland JC-40 40W 2x10 Jazz Chorus Guitar Combo Amp:

I would like to start this off by mentioning a function of this amp which is not clearly advertised. The headphone out is great for silent playing/recording. There is a good quality cab sim built into the headphone out. Use this straight into stereo headphones(set the volume LOW!), into a DAW summed to mono(TS Instrument Cable), or using a TRS cable into a stereo input, or split into two mono inputs(TRS splitter required). This is my favorite way to use this amp at home.

With that out of the way, let's address the fact that it is Solid State. Depending on your use-case, this may turn you off. The pre-amp feels less dynamic and chewy. You will not get the same breakup when dialing in the gain and hitting your strings hard. Overall it is just very snappy, tight, but still transparent. Adjusting the EQ a bit fatter and darker will bring back more tube amp-like feel, where the low end blooms more.

For keeping it simple/beginners, blues, jazz, pop, and rock, the included effects will suit you. The EQ/tone stack is exceptional, taking you from dark, warm, jazz tones, all the way to bright, mid-gain rock tones. The distortion channel is useable, but with only one distortion/gain/saturation knob, you basically get one flavor of dirt. Same goes for the reverb, nothing expansive, just a blend knob. The modulation(vibrato/chorus) is rich and tweakable. From seasick vibrato/ the Mac DeMarco sound, to a lush, 80's rock chorus, to just a stereo-widener(kinda) if you set the rate super slow and depth high, it is great.

For anyone else trying to achieve a wider range of tones, from shoegaze, ambient, high-gain, figure out a pedalboard setup($500-$2000) to pair with the amp. You can get it all if you want it. But consider your budget range. You could pick up a tube amp or amp/FX modeling gear for more or less. But I enjoy the fact that the JC40 is an all in one deal, a hub for me to +/- as I wish. With just a guitar, pedalboard, and this amp, you can play anything anywhere.

Comments about Roland JC-40 40W 2x10 Jazz Chorus Guitar Combo Amp:

This is the amp for you if you are looking to hear your Guitar's natural, original clean sound. To me, you hear what your instrument truly sounds like, of course, until you turn on the built-in chorus, vibrato or distortion. The chorus is world class. The distortion is bearable but honestly, go get a quality effects pedal because it's not the best. I'm an intermediate player who is getting back to playing after years of a hiatus. I think this is loud enough to hold your own with a band.

Comments about Roland JC-40 40W 2x10 Jazz Chorus Guitar Combo Amp:

Amazing clean sound is what you hear. The 40 watts sounds loud enough and the chorus is sublime just like my old jc120. A must amp for jazz players. Distortion is ok even though they claim it has been updated. Very portable. A little hiss here and there. But overall an awesome amp for all kinds of music.
