Good sound quality and unique tailpiece cleats.
I was diagnosed a year ago with Complex-PTSD and have been encouraged to get back into old hobbies. I am new to playing a mandolin... I have a little understanding of it since I played violin in grade school. Sadly, old mandolin was falling apart- it was a gift from someone dear to me but I guess it was pretty well used- so I bought the exact same style (F100). Anyways, with the help of you tube and electronic tuner I was able to set the bridge and tune it fairly easy. Unfortunately, one E string snapped in the tuning process (I only made it to D). I called musician's choice (who works with Guitar Center) and they sent me a set of replacement strings for free, considering I hadn't even played it yet. Now, back to you tube to change out the string and I noticed the tailpiece cleats are not the same as the ones in the videos. The A and E strings have 2 cleats each and it appears to have a nice hold (maybe it's to keep the string loops from popping off?). Anyways, it's all tuned up and the sound was amazing- a far cry different than the old one. I noticed that the strings need to be rechecked after they are all tuned- my best laymen's guess is that the tension on one side maybe affects the tension on the other side. Anyways, it wasn't a big deal to fine tune a second time around. I only play about 15-20 minutes at a time so I imagine it will take a little while for the strings to hold their note (I don't play regular to stretch them adequately from the beginning) so I cannot comment on that.

Cannot recommend
Expectations were lower at this price point, but still disappointed with the instrument. I bought it as a gift for my husband. He was not able to tune it at all, but I was not alarmed at that, since he is a beginner. After much effort, I was able to tune 7 strings, but none would hold true for more than 60 seconds (possibly due to very high humidity with a hurricane on its way). The plastic key on one string (2nd A) broke in my hand. Never got to play it, so cannot comment on tone. This would likely be a much better instrument with metal tuner keys.

I love mine and would not trade it for a more expensive one....for the money you cannot do better... Yes, it may take some setting up and some detailing on the frets, nut and bridge etc... But worth the effort... Put a little love into you will be pleased...
Less than expected

Sprouted and sharp frets, corroded strings and lose hardware upon arrival, this shouldn't happen. Out of the box, this instrument was unplayable. It will not stay in tune long enough to tune all eight strings. Craftsmanship is way less than expected for this price on a small instrument. Seriously, falling apart. Large wood chips and saw dust came out from inside the chamber.
Sound is very bright
