Great lightweight banjo

I am an experienced musician and play in a bluegrass band. This is a great banjo for practice and jamming. It's probably good anywhere because I doubt if most people can tell the difference in banjos. I bought this for practice because it is lightweight. My number one banjo is probably 4 times heavier. I did replace the tuners because I was constantly retuning the ones that came on it. The neck is nice and solid. This banjo came with a Remo drum head which is about the best in my opinion. The string height is OK. This is a bottle cap style banjo. If you look at it from the top it looks like a bottle cap. The pot is all aluminum. You usually get what you pay for but for this price we are probably getting a little bit more. I am giving five stars for that reason and not because it is a Gibson Mastertone, which it is not. Bottom line: Tune er up and have some fun!!!

Spend extra and get better

Spend a little extra money and get a better quality Banjo. I loved the look and the sound of this banjo. The 5th string peg would not hold a consistent tune. After 4 weeks, the banjo was accidentally bumped and knocked off its stand. When it hit the floor, the neck cracked. It is now useless. Yes, I know it was dropped and I know musical instruments can be fragile, but I have seen guitars and other musical instruments take a minor fall like my banjo and you pick them up, check the tuning, and keep playing. Not this banjo....its dead. Spend the extra money and get a better quality that will last.

I bought it to learn on. The guy at the store set it up for me so all I had to do was tweak the tuning when I got home. Sounds great too.

  • Definitely would buy again!

I bought this banjo to learn and it was a great choice. The build quality is great and it doesn't feel like a beginner instrument.

The banjo was delivered with the top drum ring separated from the back. I looked at attaching it but the attachment points did not all have metal inserts (ferrules?) and the wood only attachment points were cracked and separating.
