Rock House Learn Rock Guitar: Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced (3-DVD package)

I'll be honest. I haven't even watched all 3 videos, yet, but I wanted to give my initial take here before I forgot. I count on others to review, so here's what I see so far. First off, don't buy these if you don't have access to a computer. The paperwork comes as a pdf on the dvd itself, and you will not get much out of the course without being able to use the PDF. The backing tracks are on the website. I haven't been able to download them to my personal computer for burning, yet, but customer service tells me it's coming. I have been self taught for about two years, and I didn't make it all the way through the first DVD without having to practice a few things and build some finger dexterity, so I expect intermediate and advanced are going to be pretty intensive even for a seasoned player. His teaching style is very useful. He goes through each lesson one time very slow giving lots of detail. Then he speeds it up and shows you how it should sound. The expectation is the student will then study the tabs (PDF) and information provided and practice that lesson until mastery. Then come back for the next lesson and repeat. So far, I am really liking the way its working. He gives small amounts of information in each lesson. Something you can practice while spending family time or watching tv or whatever. Then builds the smaller lessons into a full song showing how to play the rhythm and lead with a backing track. If you want to learn any theory from these lessons, you'll have to trudge through the on-line supporting materials. These videos give you techniques and drills to master those techs. Then the techniques are used in a musical setting. Very effective, but very light on theory unless you study the reading material provided on line. I haven't been through enough of the on-line info to give you any idea how in depth they go. Just glanced and took note, okay that's where the theory is described. Also, if you just bought your first guitar, I'm not sure how well you would do with these. Maybe I'm wrong about that, but I picture it being tough for a first day player to grab these videos and get up to speed. If you have the open chords down and the pentatonic scale, do not hesitate, these will be perfect to move you forward from there. If your not to that point, you will likely use other resources along with these videos to get you going. Finally, I have e-mailed their customer service twice now. They responded within 24 hours the first time. The next time came over a weekend, so it took a little longer. I have been satisfied that they are willing and trying to make it a good experience for me. Good reports from me.

I've played off and on for many years and never really mastered the guitar, was basically stuck in a bad rut with no real skill & playing the same old stuff over and over. Tried a couple of online sites and was totally disappointed. I purchased this 3 DVD package and have found exactly what I needed to seriously improve my playing. The backing tracks for the scales and songs will really help you progress. The free website membership has much to offer. If you are into music theory try John's "Modes Demystified" another very good 2 DVD set that will boost your playing ability and understanding of the guitar fretboard. i have been playing for 5 years.. self taugth, and ever since, it has been a plateau for me.. i suck. thats all i know.. lol, then i got this instructional dvd. it heleped out a lot on my skills, my speed, and everything else. i highly recomend this. trust me, it works.. just follow all that john says, and keep practicing his exercises. i would give it a 5 if he taught a little bit of music theory though..

This product will get you learning in no time flat. Everything is covered and helped me to rememeber what I had forgotten after years of not playing. It also lets the new guitar player in on some secrets like how to get a good private instructor. Which is very important to someone just starting out! Plus the bonuses alone are worth the sales price, being able to play against backing tracks, having a metronome available and different exercises and routines sets this product far ahead of most methods.

This is a excellent product to get your playing knowledge up. He goes through alot of great scales to learn throughout the series. Theres alot of good leads and rhythms to play and learn also. Great product/

The instruction is quality and they throw fun, familiar riffs in with the more mundane practice tasks to keep things interesting. I have only finished the Beginner so far and have seen a big improvement (I'm not a beginner so I was happy to see any improvement from the first course).
