Upgrade for Church Sound / Praise Band
We just picked up 5 of these stands for our Church to replace some older fixed boom stands that were falling apart. As the sound guy, the first thing I noticed was the weight and metal bottom joint. Next, the boom assembly locks in place nicely and the arm doesn't tilt with a mic on it. Lastly our video director loves how the shorter booms (adjust only as long as needed) look on the big screen, especially on vocal mics for the Worship Leader who also plays acoustic guitar.

Telescoping Boom is defective
I purchased three of these MIC stands from Guitar Center San Jose a few days ago. ALL of the units on the shelf were tested by me. ALL of the units had telescoping booms where the outermost piece of the boom falls off in your hands when you extend it. These MIC stands must have a stop, to ensure that MICs never fall off on the stand. Some of our Guitar Center-purchased MICs cost more than $1000, and it is totally unacceptable that this MIC stand has no stop on the telescoping boom.
