My wife was a skeptical that I could teach myself to play the piano using this book and CD, and I have to admit that I was a bit skeptical also. First, I should give some background information about my musical history. Decades ago I gave up piano lessons after only six months when I was only 8 years old. I played trumpet in the school band in fourth and fifth grades. I had no musical exposure after that. Now at 33 years old I became determined to learn to play music without paying a lot of money. I bought a piano keyboard for $200, a keyboard stand, and this book and CD that I am reviewing here, and I downloaded a free metronome app on my phone. After five weeks of playing between 20 to 90 minutes per day, I am now half way through the book and am confident I will finish the book with more piano skills than I anticipated learning in this short amount of time. I have to admit it was quite challenging when I first started to play with both hands. The book and CD start off having you play with one hand at a time, which is easy enough. Learning to play with both hands is the real challenge. I made it through that phase. The speed at which I am learning songs is becoming faster. I now believe it easier to learn to play piano as an adult than it was as a child mostly because our hands as adults are bigger, stronger, and with improved fine motor skills, and also because as adults we have improved abilities to remain attentive and committed. I still wish I would have learned to play when I was a child. Bottom line: I think you can learn to play the piano using this book and CD.
