So here is the deal with these Prolines...they DO come in individual plastic bags to prevent the dreaded color bleed on the muffs that has occurred in the past from being pressed against each other while still "wet" from the manufacturing process. That is good. No more color bleed. However, they are smashed flat in their respective plastic bags to fit them in as tight as possible in the bag of five. They come out misshapen and have creases in the foam. Very unsightly if you have a client with high expectations. Also, they are slightly big for a standard ball mic such as the SM58. On a square headed grill like the Shure Beta 87 or Sennheiser E835/945, they fit much better, and actually look as though they were made for the mic. Here's what I did to make them look/fit better on the ball style microphones. Just (gently) turn them inside out like you would a sock. This actually reduces the size enough that it becomes a much tighter fit on the SM58 and the foam appears silky smooth. It doesn't affect the transparency of sound at all. I bought these (in store) as a last resort because I had a new-to-me band scheduled last minute, and I didn't want to spend $5 each on the higher quality (black) muffs that I use for my own personal mics and my regular gigging musicians. My only real complaint is that Proline/Guitar Center does not offer these in an all black package. If you are a pro, you know that colored hardware on stage is a no-no. These virtually florescent colored muffs would look clownish on a pro stage. If you're using for a high school/college act or church like I am in this case, they would be just fine. Some FOH guys will say that colored muffs make channel ID easier, but I know my regular singers and their positions on stage. If/when Proline offers an all black 5 pack of these, (for the same price) I will probably buy several more for the occasions I provide sound reinforcement services to random bands.
