I didn't realize these snare drums are made outside of the U.S. So, my fault because it says it in the fine print. The one I received was 'new' but it had indications of perhaps being on display in a store. It arrived very well protected(bubble wrapped) in a reused Road Star drum case box. Not a big issue, but still…. It wasn't until I replaced the stock batter head that I realized how dysfunctional the quality is/was of this thing. Main point being that certain lugs became tighter than others with significant disproportion. If I trade it in I won't even get half of what I paid. Maybe I'll make a lamp shade out of it. Jeff would be ashamed. I'm only speaking about THIS drum. I purchased a used PP brass patina 13x7" from GC and I love it.

  • Gorgeous and typically great sounding Pork Pie.

I wanted a "woody" sound to go along with my metal snare. I think I'll just use this almost exclusively from now on. I use this to record at home, and it's just a fun tool to use with my drum set. I'm not a "sledgehamer" type of drummer in the least bit, but I can get all the volume needed with my usual moderate attack. Being a Pork Pie, it should hold up to about any playing technique you throw at it. It's sensitive, solid, and after putting on an Evans dry batter head, (with an inside damping ring standard), I find that one moon-gel is all the damping I need, without crushing the natural overtones. You can tune it pretty low also, without losing dynamics.
