Heavy Hitters

By mikeinruins

from McAllen, Texas

Comments about Pork Pie Brass Patina Snare Drum:

This has to be the loudest, most durable snare drum I have ever played. The rim shots in this snare drum literally scare kids at shows. And I also noticed I DO NOT have to tune this drum after every show. The finish is just amazing. It caught my attention before I even tried it out.

this is a 5 star snare

By Craig

from Charleston

Comments about Pork Pie Brass Patina Snare Drum:

This is one of the best sounding snare drums... and for 300$ its absolutely worth every penny and more. Versitile, you can tune it loose or tight, and still get a full sounding timbre. The 13 inch width gives it a SUPER punch, and the 7 inch depth makes it full bodied. I've played on a ton of snares over the past 6 years of my drumming career and I could say this snare is one of my favorite of all time. It just feels, sounds, and looks good.

Holy Smokes

By Drumsandcymbals

from Louisville, Ky

Comments about Pork Pie Brass Patina Snare Drum:

This snare will fulfill your wildest dreams! Its diminsions and shell material give you depth, body, and lowend while staying crispy ontop. The finish on this snare drum is spectacular. The snare is seemed, but you can't tell sonically. The patina dries out the high end resonance, but the lows and mids remain thick and resonant. This is my new favorite snare--I sold my '72 6.5" Supraphonic after buying this one!

Amazin

By Eric

from South Bend, IN

Comments about Pork Pie Brass Patina Snare Drum:

I almost passed on this snare for a maple Yamaha...glad I didn't. I play all sorts of music, mostly metal, but it fits right in. I have played 3 or 4 shows without micing it and nobody missed a snare beat! It has the best tone out of any snare I have played, it cuts through everything, and looks great. The shame is only being able to give it 5 stars instead of 6! I am getting another one for my new kit this summer.

3rd snare I have owned in 25 years

By PAUL REGENSBURG

from Plainview NY

Comments about Pork Pie Brass Patina Snare Drum:

Great depth of sound, very powerful. I love the 13" size, gives me more room inside the kit compared to the Yamaha Anton Fig sig model I have been using for two years now. I have not played out live yet, only in the studio, but I am sure it will cut just great in a live stuatation.

Great tuning range, great sound, great price!

By GARRISON TURNER

from Goose Creek, SC

Comments about Pork Pie Brass Patina Snare Drum:

Quick and dirty: Terrific 13" brass snare with excellent tuning range and sensitivity (particularly great high end crack) that projects wonderfully with EXCELLENT Pork Pie build quality that HOLDS it's tuning for ages. For me it has the perfect balance of high end and body, since it's 13" (better for higher tuning) but 7" deep. And brass always lends itself to greater attack. For this price? Get it. No-Brainer.

Comments about Pork Pie Brass Patina Snare Drum:

very pleased. pick this item up used, put an evans genera hd dry on it and tuned up medium high. I play primarily modern jazz, r&b and gospel and this thing is wonderful - great tone, projection, sensitivity at a great price point. I know "it's not a Ludwig Black Beauty!" Nothing is except a Ludwig Black Beauty. Of course, it's half the price. You make the call. Personally, I like the odd-ball look. Nonetheless, "pretty is as pretty does," and this drum does it pretty well no matter what type of music you play.

    BEST SNARE EVER!!!!

    By Asylum

    from Plymouth, MN

Comments about Pork Pie Brass Patina Snare Drum:

I was at my local G.C. and they just got some new floor model drum sets so I sat down at a Gretsch Reknown Maple 6pc (which is a very very good set). and im a hard rock and metal drummer (i play Disturbed, KoRn Metallica Slipnkot and a lil Tool, etc.) so naturally i need a snare that cuts through the guitar and bass nd mic. if you can get passed the finish (i personally love it) its is an amazing snare. the rims sound good for those nice rim shots. But another detail that caught my eye when i was playing it was the throw-off. it was so clean and eazy do do. if you need a snare that cuts through the music and your wallet isnt too fat like mine, this is so worth every penny you would spend! -Asylum

Comments about Pork Pie Brass Patina Snare Drum:

Very good snare drum, the only reasons I am not giving it 5 stars is because the throw off seems poorly made in comparison to the drum (not very smooth, and not the easiest to engage disengage or loosen/tighten wires) and because I don't particularly love the finish. As far as the construction of the rest of the drum, I am very impressed. Solid feel and not too heavy, tube lugs are an excellent choice really allowing the drum to "breathe" and resonate. The finish also seems very durable. The stock heads go great with this drum, which provides a solid attack (but not too focused or dry) and plenty of body. The drum provides a warm sound but not in the traditional, fat, wooden tone way, but in a breathy, metallic way.
      Very happy with this purchase.

Comments about Pork Pie Brass Patina Snare Drum:

Ive had this snare for a week now and I give this snare a 5* walked into guitar center with a 300 buck budget for a snare and i was given this to try and i was automatically impressed by the sound of this pork pie.. the sound is very adjustable and has a very strong pop to it and is great for the rocker and jazz feel i highly recommend this to anyone looking for a snare drum on this budget and looking for the snare drum that can be adjusted in so many ways by the tension rods.. Man, This Snare drum is amazing! When I first bought this from the store It already had a used up snare drum head on it, Being to Lazy I never really came across the time to put a new head on til now. And Can I tell you with the new head this snare drum sounds so much more amazing I can tune it to a low pitch or high pitched with out any problems. This is one heck of a snare drum!

Great Sanre Drum at a Great Price

      By Joshua George

      from Ft.lauderdale, Florida

Comments about Pork Pie Brass Patina Snare Drum:

I bought it at my local guitar center when it was on sale. I'm thoroughly satisfied with the sound i'm getting out of this baby. I put on remo ambassador and remo ambassador snare side heads on this drum, and it sound so fat! I like my snare tuned lower than most, and even though it was tuned low, it had a lot of body and crack. It sounds best when hit very loud! I cant say i would recommend this to someone who is playing a softer/slower genre of music (for slower genres, i would recommend a wood snare drum). also, this drum can have a lot of ring (because its a brass shell) but if you tune it properly (preferably using a Drum Dial if you're new to drum tuning)and put on some moon gel or duct tape this drum will sound awesome for playing rock/pop/hip hop/metal. I was a little apprehensive about buying this snare drum at first, because of its "unique" dimensions (13x7), but this snare drum has made a total difference in my overall sound. If you're in the market for a new snare drum, this is the drum for you! and besides, if you REALLY don't like it, you can always return it. don't pass this snare drum by!

Comments about Pork Pie Brass Patina Snare Drum:

I bought this pork pie patina snare used, from GC. On line. When I received the drum, it needed a little TLC. I replaced all the tension rods which were either stripped or rusted, along with replacing both drum heads, with Remo ambassador batter and resonate heads. I then tuned this drum high, and WOW. This drum is by far the best sounding snare I've ever played. I currently play a pearl session custom kit. The rim shots with blow your head off and the tone is killer. WoW again. I'm going to buy another one for safe keeping just in case pork pie stops making this drum. Worth every penny.
