I play very modern music, which most normal typical synthesizer sounds would not work in my sound. I go for the unusual and different out of the normal top-40 sounds. This has the unique quality i was looking for, i can take any sound in it and quickly make it more strange or normal if i want. Most types of electronic music such as EBM, Synth-Pop, Retro-Minimal, Industrial, Trance, Dubstep, Techno, etc, the bass synths in this are great for that, plus the leads and pads are useful also! Nice arpeggio patterns can be used, or trigger them from a Midi controller! Nice bite to the filters!

  • Great little beast.

This thing is a beast... Very fat sounding, many useful features except for one. No pattern chain... They gave this great synth a limp. It's too bad cause it sounds great.

I got this right when it came out and I am so happy with it! The sounds that come out of this little box are absolutely massive. My first song sounds huge and has the organic feel that is missing from software and digital hardware synths. Best of all, I'm now able to create music with the Prophet sound for a fraction of the price of a Prophet 6. For those that love presets, this unit comes with almost 500 built-in and another 500 slots for user presets. I had fun digging around the presets to make a song, and I noticed how many modulation routing options are in this unit. I think you can use just about anything in this synth as a modulation source and destination, opening up the possibility of making some enormous sounds. I love the bouncy resonant bass sounds that this little box is capable of, and when I crank the filters wide open it's incomparable to any other synth. This is a great intro to Dave Smith Instruments and I'm excited to pick up an OB-6 and a full Prophet 6 in the future.
