Pigtronix Class A Boost Micro Effects Pedal

Pigtronix class a boost micro - review by @uplescano

Description
Superior signal-to-noise performance allows you to put the Class A Boost anywhere in your pedal chain. It can add punch and extra output to a classic overdrive sound and is able to push distortion pedals into extremely aggressive crunch land. Class A Boost is also ideal for hitting the front end of a tube amp to achieve an added layer of sweetness and fat tone.
This pedal runs fine on 9 volts but works with an 18-volt adapter (sold separately) for superior headroom and maximum punch. Make your sound one louder with this handsomely dressed, J-FET masterpiece from Pigtronix.

Fantastic Boost Pedal
I chose this boost pedal because of other positive reviews and because it can be connected to either a 9V or 18V power supply. It sounds great, and can be used to warm up the sound, add a little extra drive to pedals or the amp, or as a lead boost. I've been experimenting with the pedal to see where I like it best; there are quite a few options including before or after specific pedals, in front of the amp or in the effects loop, always on or only on in certain circumstances. Connecting this to an 18V power supply makes a notable and positive difference. It really opens up the sound and brings extra life to the sound of my amp. I like the sound of my amp all by itself so this is a big bonus to me. This voltage option is one important reason I purchased this unit and I'm very happy with that choice. I like what this boost pedal adds to my sound, and the price was right; a lot less than many of the other options. #sweepstakes

Would not buy again. Foot switch became noisy...
Used in the effects loop of a Fishman Aura pedal. Worked find and sounded better than MXR Micro Amp (which I felt added some brightness I didn't want) for about 2 weeks. Then the foot switch started making an audible pop and even in by-pass mode felt guitar sounded more 'brittle'. Finally tested with other equipment in loop (MXR Micro Amp, BOSS eq, Ibanez eq) and the problem is the Pigronix Class A boost. I'm past 45 days but I'm trying to return

Get the 18w power supply, period.
Placement on your board is key.

I needed something to make my solos/leads cut thru the mix. This does the trick. However, for that application, it has to go in the FX loop. If you put it on the front end, all it does is add gain. Hey, what a great idea! That's an excuse to buy another one!
Nice little clean boost

Some may not like the top end boost. It is not shrill and I found it to very useful to the actual sound.

This pedal makes my Marshall JCM2000 a lot more versatile. Gets to the break without being muddy. Clean side will make crisp notes better and offers a little subtle distortion lighter than crunch or lead. Brings out the sound without box compression giving more room for higher range.
