Great amp

Comments about Peavey KB 3 Keyboard Amp:

I bought this amp two years ago. I don't play keyboard, i play guitar and bass, but it works good and sounds amazing. Even if you don't play keyboard, it can hit the highest notes of a guitar, and still pick up the basses low notes at the same time(Me and the bass player from my band use it together at practices). I highly recomend this amp.

Comments about Peavey KB 3 Keyboard Amp:

Being a guitar player that plays a keyboard at certain times. I wasn't very well educated in what should be used to power a keyboard. When I first purchased my Yamaha SO3 synth keyboard, I just used a Fender solid state amp to play over. The sound was fine with me, and I didn't think much more about it. Then my son who is also a musician bought this for me, and said try it out. WOW!! I had been missing so many lows, mids, highs with the Fender, that I was shocked when I heard my keyboard through this amp. Don't misunderstand and think I'm downing Fender, because I have 4 of their all tube amps. While the Fender had sound, the Peavey had both sound and charater. The KB 3 was made for keyboards, and the Fender I was using wasn't. To give you a better example, let me use another one of my amps. When I retired a few years ago, I built a recording studio that would give me something to do. Because music is made up of different sounds, it requires different guitars, amps, and other things of this nature. One of my amps is a Marshall JVM410H with a JCM900 1960 Lead cabinet, which would cost $3,300.00 for both the head and cab. This is a far cry from the $299.00 dollars being asked for the Peavey KB 3. Even so; the Marshall is no match in sound against the Peavey if your playing Keyboards. Long story short. While I would never use this Peavey for my guitar, the 7 tube guitar amps in my studio would never be used to power the keyboard. Keep in mind that for a long time I thought playing over a guitar amp was good enough, and didn't know the difference until I heard the Peavey KB. This amp has 3 channels, each one giving you the ability to adjust the lows, mids, highs, volume, 1/4"/XLR inputs. There is a main control that will adjust settings for things such as headphones, main volume, and etc. This Peavey even has an FX loop if you want to use pedals with your rig. In trying to stay up with the present day sound due to having a small recording studio. It seems like the present mix of many songs have the drums at the forefront of the music. The guitars and other instruments were pushed to the rear, which I think sucks. The reason I brought this out, is due to this amp not giving you the ability to over ride your drumer who probably thinks they invented the wheel. Oh yes. This amp can also be used for electric drums if so desired. Never crank this amp up beyound it's peak, use another means to get louder. If you use something such as an OCD overdrive, or a pre-amp, this will help increase your sound. If that doesn't do it, then by all means mic the amp and run it through your PA system. I've had this Peavey KB 3 for over 5 years and never had a problem. It is built like a tank, & gives you the ability to mix/EQ 3 channels. The 7 amps that I have range in price from $1,100.00 to $3,300.00, and this Peavey has some options that my high priced ones don't have. The review before mine used this amp to play his guitar. While I may not find it my choice as a guitar player, it does demonstrate that this amp can do many things. When you factor in the price, you can't do better than the Peavey KB 3 for your keyboard needs.

Great amp for the price

Comments about Peavey KB 3 Keyboard Amp:

At this price you know you're not getting the quality of one of the big boys of keyboard amps. I have a space where I need to cover 125 seats theatre style. It works fine for that. One of the channels has a 3-band EQ which was a pleasant surprise (the ad says all three channels are 2-band EQ). If this is your budget, it will work fine. If you need a bigger sound, expand your budget and get something different. You get what you pay for.

Returned It. 60 watts? Really?

By Paul

Comments about Peavey KB 3 Keyboard Amp:

It has great features and looks fantastic; everything I wanted (on paper). BUT reality hit the moment we tried it out... this is about the weakest amp I've ever heard. For it's size and fairly heavy weight I was expecting something more than a bedroom amp. Even just using it as a personal keyboard monitor, on an amp stand right next to the keyboard player, I was pretty disappointed. Forget about trying to cover an audience, keeping up with a band or using it as any kind of practical PA. If you get both volume knobs turned WAY UP, 8+, you will get a bit of volume but by that point the floor hiss has pretty much taken over. So you'd better not stop playing for a second or else be ready to pull back the volume the instant you do. Sound wise the reproduction for keys is pretty nice. For voice, using a OM2, I thought it was a bit bassy/muddy. Unfortunatley GC does not stock this locally so I could not test beforehand or compare to another one to see if maybe mine was just a dog. Not one of Peavey's better efforts. Even tempts one to consider looking into a Behringer (shutter) keyboard amp.
