PRS Kingfisher is a Great Catch

I found an open box PRS Kingfisher @ GC online with the Tortoise shell finish and a PRS gig bag for $700.00. What I received was what appeared to be a brand new instrument in mint condition. The fit, form, and function of this bass are flawless. I definitely recommend that all four string loving bassists at least try one on for size.. any Bassist should be truly happy playing one of these finely crafted axes.

I am not an expert bassist, but this bass is VERY NICE and was easy to switch to after playing a Fender Jazz Bass for many years. The only problem was that the pickups were too close to the strings and it was making my E string sound out of tune with itself because of the magnets... an odd problem with a simple solution that took some internet research to resolve - but now it's perfect! I saw one review that mentioned sandpaper marks under the finish, but I have gone over my bass thoroughly and the craftsmanship is excellent. When I was about to order this bass, a used one became available through guitarcenter.com and it was BUTT UGLY because of the wood grain on that particular guitar, so I was very worried about what this one would look like. I am super picky about buying nice things and was worried about any possible imperfections buying this online, but I literally could not be happier with the bass I received. Oh, and the case that came with it is also top-notch. Pro Tip: Wait until guitar center is having a sale. I bought this bass using a 15% off coupon, which translated to about $120 in savings!

My Kingfisher came well packaged and had no dings or scars of any kind. It was well set up and has amazing playability. Should be a great instrument for many years.
Great buy for the money

This is a really really nice bass for the money. It's build quality far surpasses it's price point. I don't understand why GC doesn't feature this bass more. I ordered it as a backup to my Fender Aerodyne Jazz bass and was pretty surprised to find out the PRS is a much nicer overall bass. It's only minor drawbacks are that it's a touch on the heavy side, and the neck is a bit wide for my hands. I can play my Jazz bass much faster. But beyond that it's a better built, more robust bass in every way. I look forward to many great years with this bass.

I am an experienced guitarist but am just transitioning to the bass guitar. The SE Kingfisher has the quality to grow into. It will be a long time before this instrument becomes a limiting factor in my playing. It may never become so.
