PRS John Mayer Silver Sky Electric Guitar - Golden Mesa

I've played around 6 of these at various stores. Overall I would say these are definitely the best strat style guitar in the $2,500 range. The consistency is much better than Fender at a similar price but if you can play before buying, of course that is ideal as all are good but some are better than others. Addressing some other complaints, the tuners do have plastic heads but are not 'cheap' or low quality. Gibson also puts plastic tuners on their $6,000+ custom shop guitars. It does come with a gig bag which some people may not like but it's a very nice gig bag and I usually use them to travel with guitars and they take up much less storage space. Comparing it to my 1962 CS: quality and playability are similar. The PRS pickups are a bit more refined and articulate. The PRS is half the price.

First off, I've been a bit of a Fender fanboy for a long time. Like many people, I have often scoffed at the idea of paying ultra-lux money for a copy of a strat. But this past weekend I went to my local GC to play the Fiore and, MCCarty and some CU24s, some more Fenders and even a couple of Les Pauls. After two hours in the room, I came home with an Orion Green SS. I just simply could not stop playing it. So comfortable to hold and play, once my hand adjusted to the neck shape. But the tone immediately grabs you as being full and round, bright enough, and not nearly as overly-harsh as my Am Pro2 can be. Build quality and finish was excellent, and this thing was so fresh that buffing compound is still coming to the surface after playing. Fantastic guitar that probably won't make me sell off my Fenders, but definitely inspires and excites me to play. So happy I finally got one.

Great for like everything. Just started using it for recording, incredible guitar. I cant consider myself an expert or anything but I would highly recommend to anyone who can afford it.

I have always been a fender strat player. This guitar has completely modernized the strat and in my opinion has better tone than most guitars, period. The feel on this guitar is indescribably smooth and isn't fathomable until you pick up the silver sky in person. My neck is rosewood and it feels like butter and is so easy to play and sound phenomenal. I chose the Tungsten color and is gorgeous in photos and in person! There is no high frequency pitch noises that I dislike sometimes with strats. There is also no flat buzzing sounds. Very beautiful and deep tones. Any little bend gets matched tone quality it deserves that some guitars don't perfectly pick up on. PRS is made with such great detail and you can hear/ feel that high quality in this guitar. The JM/ PRS custom pickups designed to be a 60's strat sounds majestic. PRS feels more custom than fender in my opinion. So I think they did a spectacular job with this guitar (have not played the SE version yet). The only complaints I have is that the tone knobs are plastic and that this guitar comes in a really cheap road bag. I thought with how high quality this guitar is and how expensive it is that certainly there should be a nice hard case for this guitar. Other than that, this guitar is one of the best I've ever played. This guitar gets a lot of heat for being too similar to a fender strat but the truth is, this is a very unique guitar. It's the Tesla of guitars in today's guitar market.

Overall I am very pleased with this guitar. Fit and finish are excellent right out of the box. Rosewood fingerboard seems a little thin but I can't hear too much a difference between a maple and rosewood anyway. The only complaint is the gig bag. What a joke. Guitar is worth it though

Fantastic guitar! I love the color and the attention to detail is fantastic. The only thing is the action and the plastic tuners. I love a vary low action and I had a vary high action out of the box but a Couple adjustments and it was perfect. If you pay over 2k for a guitar I with you would get a hard case and not plastic tuners. Over all sounds grate play's grate.
