I sold my old 1991 12 string Ovation custom legend and bought this guitar. I had GC take the two shims out of the bridge and the action is great; and the sound is great. A little loud compared to other guitars which is not a problem for me. This guitar sits on your stomach better than the old ovations; the back also provides access to the inside of the guitar. My 1991 Ovation was made in the USA and this one is made in Korea but has great craftsmanship. The Inlays on the neck are smaller and harder to see than my older model; I do miss that. This one sounds just as good or better than the USA made custome legend. This guitar is really beautiful to look at as well. I hope this helps. I am considering buying the 6 string 2778Ax too because I gave my 1994 6 string Ovation legend to my brother which plays excellently too. Note: Ovation backs will not expand and contract with the weather so I suggest you keep the guitar in the case when not in use with a humidifier as needed. Try them all and decide. This was the best for me.

I have just received my guitar from GC and played it about 2 hours. This Guitar had a standard action; almost identical to my 1991 custom legend 12 string. I saw an Ovation youtube video that showed that the upper end ovations have shims in the bridge Athen's excellent Guitar tech, Mike, was aware of this and removed the shims. The Elite action is that of a electric with no bussing now. Both played good with shipped action. The action and sound is very comparable to my 1991 custom legend 12 string. Love the Guitar so far However, the neck on the Elite is a standard C shape where as the 1991 custom legend 12 string has a "v" carved neck which I will say initially is better. I do like the C neck but you would have to either have owned or played a 1991 custom legend 12 string to feel the difference. The neck was near perfect and needed no adjustments.

I purchased this guitar almost a year ago. I have a 12 celebrity mid bowl and I love it. I never thought I would love the sound of this guitar even more! The deep bowl creates a fuller sound. It projects a lot more when you are not plugged in. The first time a played this in church, the other guitarists kept looking around to see where that great sound was coming from. They were plugged in, I was not. The coutour makes it easier to play without sliding. there is a texture to the bowl that also helps keep it in place while you are playing. the finish is just beautiful and really catches the eye. I was looking at this guitar fir a long time. I am so glad I took the leap and have one of my own!

Bought the guitar on line through Guitar Center; Guitar Center is great. Out of the box, the guitar was playable but when being set up by my guitar tech, he discovered the fretboard was bowed at the connection point between the neck and the body. Ovation covered the repair under warranty. After being set up, the guitar plays great. Now I have a problem with the on board electronics and it is back to the shop for more warranty repairs. The guitar otherwise sounds and looks great. I was dissapointed that the guitar was made in Korea rather than the U.S. You get what you pay for. I own two other Ovation guitars and am very pleased with the sound and playability of all three guitars.
