Ovation

Description

The Celebrity Elite Plus series builds on the classic multi-sound hole instrument design of the Celebrity Elite guitars, upgrading them with select figured tops, beautiful abalone appointments and first-rate sound, style and features.

The Celebrity Elite Plus CE48P-KOA guitar has the classic Super Shallow Lyrachord® cutaway body with a Figured Koa Top. This top features the Elite multi-soundhole design, which provides clear highs, focused, and balanced bass response. For the top’s quartersawn scalloped “X” bracing, we reviewed earlier Ovation bracing patterns extensively and arrived  at a remarkable new design that borrows from the past and is voiced for the present. With natural tone and optimal response and power, the body, top and sound holes create the classic Ovation Elite sound, resonating with full projection, remarkable note clarity and balance, and nuanced tonal complexity.

The top is complete with white binding and a beautiful transparent Sunburst finish. Other premium features include an effortlessly playable satin-finish neck, 10”-radius rosewood fret board with 20 fully accessible frets (24 frets for high E string), Pearloid inlays, and a rosewood bridge. The CE48P-KOA features an Ovation Slimline pickup and OP-4BT preamp system with three-band EQ, volume/gain control, onboard tuner and low-battery light.

Received the guitar in 3 days once it was back in stock. The packaging was a little thin but they put the Ovation box into an outer carton so that was good. Inside no gig bag and the guitar was fairly loose with just some thin foam wrapped. But no damage so that's cool. Beautiful looking guitar. No blemishes. Unlike some others said the action is a tad high but nit bad! Neck is nice and straight. No buzzing. No sharp fret ends. White binding on neck and body is a nice bonus. All electronics seem to work fine so far. Strings are mediocre - no big deal Surprisingly even in this cold weather the guitar was close to tuned a half step down. Unplugged it sounds ok. Expecting a weaker bottom end and that's the case but not horrible- just don't compare it to an all wood traditional guitar. Plugged in its exactly what I expected - a great guitar to accompany vocals. Bright middle and high that cut through with a decent bottom end. Not too much slippage from the sitting position either. I own 5 acoustics and this is my first Ovation. I purchased it for that reason and the vocal accompany reason and it's unique looks. Not a very expensive guitar so it met or exceeded my expectations. All that said for the price I will give 5 stars. If you want something a bit different and are a singer aI recommend.

  • Was exactly what I ordered.

I use the guitar exclusively in my home studio. My headstock tuner seems to work just a bit better that the built-in one. I removed the saddle spacer when I installed new strings. Not impressed with the Adamis strings that came on it. Just a bit tinny, I thought. Really impressed with the pick-up system. Versatile and easy to understand. All the set-up info sent with the guitar was great and I'll save it for future reference. Sounds okay acoustic, but, like all the Ovations I have owned, it sounds much better amplified. I bought it because of the 1.69" nut. My thumb won't wrap around the neck like it used to. The narrow nut makes it somewhat easier. I am 74.

The action is very high when it ships. Ovation puts shims under the bridge which you will need to remove to set your preferred action height. I removed them all and put a set of D'Addario extra light (10's) on it and it plays very close to the way an electric does. No fret buzz either. Its also a BEAUTIFUL guitar. I get so many compliments on its finish.

First and foremost, this guitar is gorgeous. I purchased the transparent regal to natural (blue) color scheme, and as great as I thought it looked online, it looked even better in person. It's sort of like a "moonburst" with a pearl color transitioning to a deep blue on the edges - very unique. If you do a google search for this particular guitar, you can find owner-posted pictures that give different visual perspective (and more accurate) from the stock GC picture. Guitar sounded great right out of the box after a quick tuning. Great quality strings, electronics (battery included) worked perfectly, and I didn't need to have anything adjusted. Quality seems high, no flaws were noted after delivery. As for the sound, it seems like there are some mixed reviews on the "super shallow" bowl from Ovation, but I was pleasantly surprised by the range of sound from the guitar. Obviously the highs and the mids are clear and bright, but the lows are much better than I anticipated for the shallow body style. I personally opted for the shallow bowl as I wanted a comfortable guitar with a compact size (yet full size) to play around the house, and I certainly feel like the sound doesn't disappoint. Sure, it doesn't have the bass presence of my full size dreadnought, but it sounds great nonetheless for its size, better than I anticipated. I was strongly considering a mid-depth bowl Ovation while purchasing this particular guitar, but I am happy I went with this particular model. After owning this guitar for a several weeks now, I still wear a big smile every time I pick it up. Would pick this guitar up again in a heartbeat.

Pulling this Celebrity Elite CE48P out of the box put a smile on my face. It's beautiful and well made. I tuned it up and heard her voice for the first time - beautiful again. The workmanship is really nice but the reality that it is a Chinese made guitar is reinforced by a "Crafted in China" printed on the back of the head between the tuners and the start of the fingerboard. I expected the guitar to sound "tinnier" (like tin as in tin can) than my 34 year old Custom Balladeer with its deep contour body. It does sound a little "thinner" (as in skinny) but not nearly as bad as I expected. "Brighter" is the best description I can offer. The sweet little super shallow body is easy to hold and the strings hover just slightly over the fretboard making it easy to play. 5 Stars... Then I plugged her in and strummed but the E2 string's was so muted that I could hear it from the guitar but not the amplifier....a bad pick-up...ugh...down to 3 Stars... The idea of shipping my newly beloved guitar back to the factory or dropping it off for service that might take weeks made me sad so I took the back off and inspected the internals of the guitar. The layout of the electronics is logical and modular. I realized that I could easily replace the broken bridge pick-up myself, all I needed was for the warranty department to ship me a replacement. I called the Warranty and emailed everything that was requested including a copy of the days-old purchase receipt....Warranty had no problem with me doing the repair myself and said they'd ship a replacement directly to my house...up to 4 Stars...I called after a week of no contact and found my claim had slipped through the cracks...down to 3 Stars...Theyexpidited a replacement bridge, pickup and assorted shims and in less than 20 minutes all six strings are singing at least levels through an acoustic amp...back to 4 Stars. Not counting the warranty problem with pick-up this would have easily been 5 stars...

  • I was disappointed in the action of the guitar.

The action is too high to enjoy the neck of the guitar. I bought it to enjoy the electric guitar feeling with my acoustic sound. Guitar Cntr. Is aware of the problem and i have made time to have their tech. Adjust the bridge. Thnx

Hello! I'd like to known something more about the action: since I like to play solos, I prefer acoustic guitars with very low action. What about the action on this guitar? Many thanks! Max

The action is going to be upper middle level, it is recommended to have a setup upon delivery for optimal performance.
