Description

Most compressor/gates provide less than musical compression, coupled with gating that swallows transients or closes early, cutting off decay and reverb tails. The superb engineering in the 166XL ensures that both its compression and gating provide versatility and excellent sonic performance in situations where other compressor/gates typically produce undesirable processing artifacts.

The dbx 166XL Dual Compressor Limiter uses advanced gate circuitry to yield ultrasmooth release characteristics, no matter how complex the signals. The Stereo Couple mode with True RMS Power Summing produces a solid image, even with high compression. Full sidechain functionality with hard knee or OverEasy compression algorithms. Single rackspace.

Very transparent compressor. One of the best you'll buy in this price range. Set the threshold a little below -10db. crank the ratio up give it a quick attack and a medium to fast release and it'll handle any loud vocalist you throw at it.

You can use this for anything. I hooked it up to my amp to stop the buzz from my guitar, feedback, and unwanted noise it did all. i had tried several others before this and they just didnt cut it. try it, if you dont like it take it back.

The DBX 166XL compressor does exactly what its name says it does. The 166XL provides 2 channels of noise gating, it has classic hard knee compression which I like for bass guitar and OverEasy mode which I like to use for vocals. I use this compressor in my project studio almost everyday and I have never had any problems with it. The unit is built well and it has a clear compression, which does not add noise into the signal chain. In order to maximize the use of the unit I would recommend reading the manual several times. Overall the unit is very good and it provides a good value for the cost.

I recently got this compressor/limiter/gate for use in my studio. For the price, you get a very good unit. It comes packed with features, having not just compression but a limiter and a gate as well. You can manually set most of the settings yourself, allowing you to fine-tune your recordings. The quality of the resulting signal is very good, and you can tweak the unit enough so that the compression never sounds forced or obvious. All in all, a good unit at a great price!
