Open Box Zoom H1n Handy Recorder Red Edition Level 1

Description
Sound Quality
The H1n's X/Y microphones capture high-quality stereo sound, supporting up to 24-bit audio at sampling rates of 44.1, 48, or 96 kHz in WAV and various MP3 formats.
New Controls
With the H1n, we’ve redesigned the user experience. One-touch button controls make it simple to record songs, audio-for-film, lectures, podcasting, and more. And its new monochromatic 1.25” LCD display is easy to read even in the brightest lighting conditions.
Distortion-Free Recording
An advanced onboard limiter offers distortion-free signal up to 120 dB SPL, cleanly recording the loudest of bands. A low-cut filter also helps eliminate pops and unwanted low-frequency rumble.
Unlimited Overdubbing
The overdub function lets you add layers of audio, allowing for richer and fuller sounding recordings.
Transcription Made Easy
The H1n’s Playback Speed Control lets you transcribe music, interviews and other types of recordings without altering pitch.
Don’t Miss the Moment
You can also set the H1n to auto-record, pre-record, and self-timer, making sure you always capture the moment.
Mark and Sync
New tone and slate generators make it easy to mark the start and stop points for syncing audio to video.
The Connections You Need
A ⅛" stereo mic/line input lets you record with your external microphones or other sound sources, and supplies plug-in power (2.5 volts). Connect headphones via the ⅛" headphones output with dedicated volume control. You can also use the H1n’s built-in speaker to listen to your recordings. The H1n’s USB port provides a digital output of the stereo mix and allows data to be sent to and from your computer. It also allows the H1n to be used as a USB microphone and a microSD card reader.

Very happy purchase
I bought this little handheld recorder just for fun and I didn't really expect much. But when it arrived I opened it up and it was a lot more smaller and compact more than the pictures lead to believe, but that's a plus for me. So I figured it be a cool all around YOU for recording live performances, and nature hikes, basically simple stuff you would not really GREAT audio recording. But one night late cuz I couldn't sleep, I decided to go play my electric guitar at approx like 1am so I had to be quiet and not wake up the wife and kid. So I figured I'd try this little handheld recorder to try out with my guitar, and what an AMAZING eye opener!! I was making my own music by unlimited overdubbing and was in heaven! This thing is like it's own little recording studio with a couple cords and a set of headphones! The ONLY negative thing I have to say is the built in tiny, tiny speaker on the device for uncorded and speaker listening your recorded tracks is really useless. But I did not expect for that speaker to sound good. But all in all great product! It exceeded my expectations! If your thinking about buying one, DO IT you won't be dissapointed!

I love the red color and the cage to protect the mics. It does a great job of recording, BUT it picks up a LOT of noise when hand held. Also the black lettering on the red is almost impossible to read. The black unit would probably be better.
Remarkable recording clarity and definition

So far I've just casually placed it on a table about three feet away from guitar and vocals. The quality and depth was beyond my expectations. Very pleased with this recorder. Things to remember - you have to connect to a good speaker(s) (otherwise the device doesn't provide any serious sound representation). Also, don't forget to turn it off - otherwise the batteries wear down fast!
Some welcome additions to the original H1

I have an original H1, which I've used for several years now to record jams with pick-up bands, open mic nites, and a few live gigs (which have been limited thanks to COVID!). I picked up a second unit as a back-up, and so I could position two units in different places for spontaneous recordings. You can easily stick this unit on a high bookshelf (or a mic stand/camera mount) and get a fairly decent recording of an event. Battery life is good (comfortably can record a 5 or 6 hour jam) and with a 32 GB card you get almost 50 hours at 44.1kHZ .WAV recording, or 999+ hours in .MP3 mode. This unit is cheap enough to throw in your guitar case so that you can always record those oceans of mediocrity and occasionally capture an island of wonder! Some new features on the H1n: ability to put test tones for level setting, pre-recording pause, overdubbing. And it beats lugging along a Nagra or a Porta-Studio cassette....
Nice recording device.

Recorded band practice session. Worked great. I bought the wrong SD card to start. Wish one would have been supplied.

I needed a new Zoom Mic. I also needed a new on camera and on boom mic for quick interviews. The fact it works on a tripod or monopod makes it an easy choice for pickup audio that's going to be much better than a number of options. I like it better than the Rhodes shotgun we have. It's flimsy plastic for sure, but I like that it's got a headphone jack. I like that it's got auto levels, but it gets really noisy, so I don't use. I like that it's got phantom power if I'm connected to a laptop or my desk setup. I don't plan on using this in any kind of rugged production use. I don't trust it to hold up. But, I liked the original H1N series of Recorders, and this seems in line with the audio quality. The build is what it is. If it wasn't a stupid deal, I wouldn't have purchased.

Does this have its own built in mic? Does this have s speaker or head phone connections? Or does it need to be connected to another device in order to listen to a recorded song?
yes. It has the two silver mic tips at the top. The speaker is right above the H1N logo and the headphone jack is on the left side of the device.submitted7 years ago
