A Great Light For the Price - Bit Of A Learning Curve
I felt I needed to write a review of this great, cost effective lighting instrument because of comments other reviewers have left out of ignorance. You CAN use the wash and moonflower mode separately, but only if you are using DMX 20 channel mode. If you are a DJ and don't want to control your lights through a DMX controller, and just want to set it up to do color and pan/tilt macros to the beat this fixture might be for you if you are prepared to delve through the manual and tweak all its features from the LED display. However, if you are using a DMX light board or a DMX controller hooked up to your computer, this fixture is a little gem at a great price once you learn its idiosyncrasies. Pros: *The wash and moonflower effect is very bright and effective on stage *The X-axis is 540 degrees of rotation and the Y-axis is continuous *Separate control of wash and moonflower in DMX 20 channel mode *Works well right-side up on the floor or upside down on a lightbar/truss with flippable display Cons: *Learning curve, not intuitive even with the manual *Needs a real DMX lightboard/controller to get the most control out of it; your out-of-box, automatic features experience may vary *Unlike some other Venue Tetra lights, you cannot daisy chain the power for this fixture with ECCOM power cables; each Revolver Wash will need its own power cable/plug on a truss/lightbar - each one pulls a maximum of 0.78 Amps @ 120V Other thoughts: I will save you some time and grief filling you in on what I have learned with this fixture through trial and error. In DMX 20 channel mode: *Channels 5-8 (red1, green1, blue1, and white1) control the moonflower side of the fixture *Channels 9-12 (red2, green2, blue2, and white2) control the wash side of the fixture !Channel 13, which is Strobe, MUST BE SET TO OPEN (255) for either side to work. It will not strobe but the lights won't come on unless Strobe is set to open. You can get the lights to actually strobe at a lesser value than 255, but if Strobe is set to OFF (0-7) your lights will not come on regardless of the master dimmer. With other Venue lighting instruments Strobe is independent and does not effect the dimmer like this !ALSO, channel 14 is Open Light which is actually the master dimmer which needs to be up for your lights to come on (obviously) *Channel 15, dimming, is NOT the dimmer but rather sets up the style of dimming - counter intuitive if just reading off the 20 channel mode description !ALSO Channel 4, Pan/Tilt Speed, works, however the X axis and Y axis slow down at different rates but share the same value - annoying but manageable I run a school of rock style program at the school I teach at. We are using a pair of these with great success for our band's show. I am planning to get two more. We are using Chauvet ShowXpress DMX light software to design and control our show and it works great with these fixtures (I created the 20 channel ShowXpress profile myself, but Chauvet will also do it for you in their forums). I also successfully used them with a MIDI to DMX converter and was controlling them with the knobs, faders, and buttons on my little MIDI controller. I need precise control of these lights for our show and they deliver. I have not delved much into color and pan/tilt macros as I make my own with ShowXpress, nor have I done much with the automatic non-DMX features for syncing up your beat to these lights on a dance floor. I am leaving five stars because I believe the cost/value makes up for the learning curve and minor drawbacks. Hope this helps you out! TL;DR - Great moving fixture for the price (especially if you can get them on sale!) with a learning curve, plus a need for a real DMX controller/lightboard to get this lighting instrument fully under control.

Great moving head but...
It's a great light considering price and versatility, but can't use each side separately. Would love to use only one side OR the other, depending on the application.

Was super easy to set up, including being able to link them as master/slave. They also inclining a couple hooks and brackets to be able to fly them if you wanted. I would say you may want to add a couple spots beans as well to complement them, as they are really good as a wash and less of a spot. #sweepstakes
I love this product it is so awesome!

I love the venue revolver wash! the way I use it is by putting three of them up high in the air to get that nice even front wash along with some other variable white lights but those are usually kept off unless really needed because these are super bright and have a long beam through that cuts through thew air and it gives such an even wash along the entire stage. overall after I got one I immediately fell in love and after that I bought 2 more for a total of 3 but I would totally buy them again!

I seen a video on the lights online and like the features the lights have to offer. The lights are good and bright for my events and it works well with my set up.
Great light but works best with a 20 Channel DMX controller.

I got this light for a great deal and was very happy with the quality of light. But on auto or sound activated mode it moves much too fast and gets annoying and there isnt anyway to slow it down, or to use only one side of the light without using a DMX controller. Also i didnt see any difference in the different Scenes it has to offer. Im new to DMX so i bought a Venue Tetra Controller which did not work with it. After some research I found that this light works best with a 20 Channel DMX controller. You can use a 10, 12 or 20 channel controller, but in order to access all the best options such as macros you would need to access all the 20 channels. Once you have that access, this light is really great and you can control all the options it has to offer.

how to know if it's in sound active mode or in scene/program?
It is not sound activated. That would be a " feature" and something specifically pointed out.submitted2 years ago
