Not sure, but this FUN!!!!

I'm not a drummer, so I'm not sure what this drum should really sound like, but with a list price of $59.00, I assume it should sound acceptable for what it is. I got up yesterday morning hungover at 6:00am to get some amazing Black Friday wondrous savings at Guitar Center, well I was 45 minutes late, and this is the only doorbuster deal that they had left. So I bought the Toca Colorsound Djembe for the steal of $10.00. And honestly I have spent at least two and a half of the last 24 hours hammering away on this little drum. I Love it!! It has all kinds of tones, weather or not they compare to a $100+ Djembe, I'm not sure, I had never played a Djembe before yesterday, but here's the bottom line- I am having loads of fun on this little drum!! And that's what music is supposed to be-fun. I put on the more tribally Dead Can Dance songs and had a blast. And this drum sounds great! It has a decent variety of tones depending on how you squeeze the ropes and snap/thump/tap/slap the skin in different areas. It is loud! Surprisingly loud for a drum this size. The skin is real goat skin, where the body is synthetic, but it is well made. I suspect that my sense of timing and rhythm will improve as I go about pounding out more and more complex beats which she begs you to do straight away. So, maybe my stringed instrument attack and timing will improve as well? If you were considering a little fun drum for cheap, she will suit your needs!

Based on price it's ok

I purchased this on sale so as far as value it's ok. Had I purchased it full price I'd be disappointed. It is what it is. A small djembe drum that's a step above a toy. You could certainly door some fun stuff with it especially Just hanging around with some friends and possibly could have a purpose at a small gig but don't expect much more

I bought three of these drums and plan on using them with small group classes in my private music studio, as well as in the preschool music classes that I teach. The small size yet big sound will be perfect for the kids that I teach. They will also add great variety to the other percussion instruments that I use for rhythm classes and drum circles.

For the quality this should cost about half of the listed price. It's synthetic with a thin, syntheic head and is really a toy more than an actual instrument. I do not recommend this for anyone but a child. I bought it as a supplement for my drum circle and I'll let the kids play it.

  • Great for the little ones.
