Amazing "little device"

As stated earlier, the interface is truly awful, the indexing with some files is screwy, It's pretty heavy and bulky, and the battery life is only OK. So it's not much of a gadget for gadget geeks. So why 5 stars? I am happy to give it 5 because it just is incredible sounding! I only rarely use it as a portable player. It mostly stays connected to my Mac and acts as either a headphone amp or an endpoint for Roon. I use it to feed my Fostex TH900's or my Monoprice Planars, or any of several other cans, and it sounds amazing with any of them. It also acts as a great DAC or amp for use with my iPhone or iPad and makes either one a Hi-res device via their software, but also makes simple stuff like Tidal or Apple Music sound great. True one of the best audio purchases I have made, but if I was buying it for it's own player function, I might not be thrilled, though it works fine, just hard to get used to. As to the sound. First, it is absolutely dead quiet. It has great impact and detail. lows are clear, no mud whatsoever. Honestly it does everything right.
Wow!

The price is high, the interface sucks, no album art, lyrics nothing. The D/A converter and amp fricken beautiful. Who needs album art when even mp3 and acc sound incredible, and flac files sound the best I have ever heard then. Compare the sound to an iPod or IPhone (you can connect your iPhone to this and use the million times better amp and D/A) and you will never listen to music straight out of an i device. If you want all the liner notes and lyrics your out of luck, but if you want to hear your music like never before then this is for you. Tip you have to turn the volume limiter off if you us studio headphones and you should, it is default on. Also it takes a while to scan sd cards so turn off auto-scan and scan the card only after you have made changes to it. If all you care about is music sounding good and don't care about eye candy this is the audio player for you.
