Good Kit, Good Price

Way to go SPL. These drums sound really good. I play clubs every weekend (top 40) and needed a kit that sounded good and was durable. I wanted something different than maple and decided on these birch drums. I've been using them the last couple of months every weekend, and they just get better and better. These drums sound decent out of the box with some fine tuning. After playing the drums a bit, I opted to switch the tom tom and floor tom heads to Emperor Clears on the batter (top) with Ambassador Clears on the resonant (bottom) side, along with muffling in the kick and tweaking of the snare. I did try a couple of different head combinations on the drums, but these changes made this kit happen for my ear. I've been getting compliments about the drum tone from many people, including other drummers. The drums project (volume) well and also have ample sensitivity for light touches during quieter gigs, which is something I wanted. The quick release buttons for the toms and floor tom legs make set up and tear down easy, especially at the end of the night. The tom adjustment on the bass drum allows for moving the toms (further away or closer to you) wherever you like them to be, which isn't available on many kits. I personally like putting the toms on a stand, which actually helped the bass drum sing a bit more. While the snare sounded good with a lot of crack out of the box, I tried a different strainer and heads, and it made it sing. In playing live at one point, the snare did have a couple of screws come loose (in the lug inserts and lug screws). I had to tighten those, and I also tightened a few others on the other drums as well. The strainer throw-off seems cumbersome and doesn't lock solidly, which concerns me. Overall, I am pleased with this kit. For someone just starting out and others looking for a drum kit to use that won't break the bank, this is a good kit to consider.

Doesn't include much of the hardware needed or cymbals

The product pictures are deceiving as the product does not come with much of the hardware needed or cymbals. This is deceptive advertising, although if someone does look closely and read the reviews it can be deduced. Still...remove the product photos that are not accurate.

I was trying to get back into drumming but had a limited budget. I saw this drumset at guitar center and to my surprise it was on sale. I bought it and when i got home i set it up and it sounded awesome right out the box. I changed the heads in all the drums and it sounds even better. I highly recommend this drumset to anybody looking to buy a drumset thst doesnt cost too much.

The best drums you can buy for this amount of money or more. Can't believe how heavy duty they are. And how well made they are. The hardware is excellent.

Is the midnight sequin color black or a dark shade of green? I can't find it anywhere in person to check, and pictures online look like it can go either way based on the camera and/or lighting.
