This would stand out easily in a live session or when busking. For recording, however, the tone is thin and brittle. I bought this to replace my Rogue to record with, but I found it difficult to get a good tone, and ultimately ended up using the $50 Rogue to get that traditional tone. The S8 plays great and is superb quality, but its small body results in disappointing tone that made me return it.

I got the burnt umber model it cost a little bit more. I Ben playing mandolin for 15+ years now and I got to say the seagull s8 is a very nice one. Very load punch to it! I changed the strings on mine to light strings and it sounds lovely. The action to me seems a little high but I'm ok with it. Wish the pick guard was a little bigger because of the way I like to play I rest my pinky on the pick guard and because it's so small I sometimes end up hooking my finger nail on it when doing tremlo. Other then that I really like mine. I've had mine for close to 2 years now with 4 string changes and I got to say again I really like it.
