This case is really the best deal around considering the situation that exist when you are a traveling musician. I fly almost every gig and I've had only two accidents with my basses (yes I stuff two basses inside my gig bag and it all fits). If you make sure that you tell the airline inspectors to duct tape your latches before they put it on the conveyor belt you should have no problems.

Probably not the best idea.
I own a few SKB cases so I like them. I also (used to) like gig bags so I thought this would be ideal. First understand that this case does not open like a normal case with hinges. There are no hinges; it splits open like a walnut shell to accept your bass in it's gig bag. There's no way to use this case without a gig bag. I was thinking I could use this case without the gig bag to humidify my bass with an in-case humidifier but again, there's no way to use this case without a gig bag and gig bags are difficult or impossible to use with an in-case humidifier. This case is a shell with two pieces of foam, one at the bottom (where the strap button is) and another at the headstock. The fit for my long-scale bass (in my gig bag) was okay but it made me think, what if it was a short or medium scale? Would the fit still be okay? Maybe not. With a conventional case you can always pad the headstock if the case is too long but with this case it wouldn't be so easy to reach way inside where the headstock rests and accurately place the extra padding. If you like gig bags and just occasionally need some extra additional protection this is probably okay but I opted instead for a conventional SKB molded case with the flight case latches. Can't go wrong.

Almost a perfect product

This case is almost perfect for flying your bass with one exception. There is only one buckle that keeps it held together and because all plastic "flight" cases resemble gun cases TSA is going to open it and more than likely not latch the buckle correctly like they did with mine. Lucky for me I saw this as a potential problem before I flew with it and added a dog collar around the 2 handles as a backup and that was the only thing holding it together when it came off the plane.
Yes it's great

Excellent design, it is intended to be used with your instrument in a gig bag. I first saw one while hanging out with Ron Thal before a Bumblefoot gig in Tucson, his bass player had 2 of them. Since I was flying to Vancouver with my '98 Parker Fly & was worried about getting it there in one piece, I've been looking at options. The Fly, in gig bag, fit nicely into the shell, and I actually packed all my cables in quart or gallon zip lock, as well as a few gallon ziplocks of clothes, and these fit snug in the shell along side of the gig bag, and a fleece hoodie in the bottom before I closed & locked it with the included TSA sanctioned lock. There was no shifting or movement, the guitar was well protected, and I had the bonus of having my soft, padded gig bag for the Fly when I arrived. I strongly endorse this case & vehemently disagree with the post that calls it stupid & flimsy.
Probably not the best idea.

I used this case for a 4hr flight, and it protected my bass well. No problem fitting my bulky Yamaha BB515 with room to spare to slip other stuff into the case. It is easy to use, in that you just stick your gig bag in, and the wheels are convenient for long treks. It's also pretty light and easy to maneuver. I did not like the fact the case's odd shape means that it won't stand or lean against anything upright. So, while in the long airport line I had to either continuously hold the case up on the wheels, which is awkward while managing a suitcase; or lay it down completely as in the picture, and then pick it up again when the line moved on-which was also a bit of a hassle. In the end, the case does it's job for a good price.
