Can this be used for taiko drum practice?
The Remo Buffalo Drum with a Comfort Sound Technology head can be used for taiko drum practice, but with some caveats—it depends on what aspects of taiko you're practicing and your goals. Good for: Kata (form and movement) practice – The Buffalo Drum is lightweight and can be mounted or held, allowing you to work on posture, grip, arm movements, and choreography. Rhythm and timing practice – You can absolutely drill rhythms, kuchishoga (verbal rhythmic notation), and timing on it. Quiet practice – The Comfort Sound head is much quieter than traditional taiko, which is great for home use or apartment settings. Not ideal for: Tone and projection – It won't give you the booming, resonant sound of a traditional taiko drum, especially if you're trying to get used to the physical feel and response of real taiko skins. Bachi feedback – The rebound and resistance are different from a real taiko, so it won't help you develop strength or technique in the same way a real drum or a higher-quality practice drum would.submitted8 years ago
