More than just a pedal
The ability to switch between presets using the Sanpera I is whole lot easier than pressing the little buttons found on the amp...well, duh. Seriously, the Sanpera I is a must if you have any of the Vypyr series simply because the ability to switch presets is now at your feet. I had the Sanpera I since GC's Black Friday deals and it took a couple of hours to get used to what the switches do, how to move around the banks, and how to set up and play using the Looper. Once that was done, the Sanpera I has been a dream. This thing is built to last...so far, I had dropped it, had my dog run into it, and had my wife kick at it. This was because I had left the amp on and was getting feedback, thought by kicking it that it would turn off. It's scuffed but that's cool. I'm glad that Peavey built this pedal as black instead of silver, matches the amp better. Other than color, there is no difference between the two. That's the good, now the bad... From other reviews, two of the biggest dings for the Sanpera I has been a) to go from main to aux using the pedal one has to press down hard and b) the playpack using the looper is too loud. With this pedal, one of the two problems has been fixed. First off, switching between main and aux is relatively easy. You do not need to modify the pedal i.e., to remove the backing and adjust the screw. I was able to switch between main and aux with ease...simply press down. The playback from the looper hasn't been fixed. I laid down and recorded some power chords using the Sanpera. When I played it back, the leads were so buried you really couldn't hear it. I was told that I would need to download the latest Vypyr software. Problem is, with the 30-watt amp you'll need to buy a USB-midi cord. Should you get the Sanpera I or II? I got the Sanpera I simply because I don't have the need to have over 12 presets nor have the desire to have a separate volume and expression pedal. For guys and girls who simply play it straight, get the Sanpera I...for others who like to push the boundaries get the Sanpera II.

A total disappointment
I purchased the Peavy Sanpera 1 to use it on stage with my Peavy VYPYR VIP 2. The amp is really fantastic, Just what I needed, but regarding the Sanpera footswitch I have to say that I'm very dissapointed. Actually, I'm considering return it. At least for me, the pedal is not user friendly at all, specially about the BANK SELECT MODE. PRESET MODE is the only one that is easy to use, but when you try to access the BANK MODE then, is when you will have your first frustrating trouble. In fact, I've been trying to figure it out for a week and still have not found the way to use and switch BANKS. I just can't!!!. One has to press buttons 1-2 simulteneously and that's the first risk specially if you are on stage and you can't afford the luxury of making a mistake when you need an acoustic guitar sound instead of an electric guitar one. On the positive side, the pedal on the other hand is strong and sturdy. Built to last. I am really sorry that I have to return it and not to be able to use it. Again maybe it is just me, but in my opinion it is too complicated. In my opinion, a foot switch should be easier to use.

I already had the Vypyr modeling amp, so this was a no brainer. Works great. Love the expression pedal.
Necessary to access the looper. The time is too short.

I recently bought the Vypyr 1 amp. I am mostly a bass player, but like to play around with and write on the guitar a bit. One of the selling features of this amp was the looper. I like to see how my ideas sound together. I have been considering getting one. I was sold on the Vypyr since it was both. When my vypyr comes, you need a Sanpera pedal to access the looper. Drop another $100 and wait almost 3 weeks (coronavirus shut down). I am giddy like school girl. The looper only holds up to 30 seconds. The other functions of the pedal worked pretty good. It won't let you switch between all 4 banks. you can switch between the 2 electric guitar settings. But acoustic and bass you are stuck in. On stage I am a bass player, working on some singer/song writer acoustic stuff. The need to switch between settings mid song on stage isn't something I need. Since I got the pedal for the looper feature, this is being returned. I will just buy a looper pedal for the same price.
I would buy it again

Good quality product. Gold eagle design is real nice ( bought 2 ). The pin holes are too small. If used as is hole will get deformed from being bunched up. Drills dont work well with leather but better than not. I bough a small set of leather hole punches that I wanted for a while anyway and fixed them right up. Manufacturer needs to be told. Otherwise good strap.
