Open Box Peavey MAX 100 100W 1x10 Bass Combo Amp Level 1 Gray and Black

Description
The Peavey MAX 100 bass combo amplifier is an affordable yet powerful amp designed for bassists seeking huge tone and performance reliability. Featuring 100 watts of power, a specialized 10" speaker, and Peavey's exclusive psycho-acoustic low-end enhancement for maximum bass impact without straining the speaker, the MAX 100 delivers a thunderous low end in an amp built for portability and stage-readiness.
DDT Protection Safeguards Your Speaker
Peavey's patented DDT compression protects the MAX 100's speaker from damage due to over excursion, allowing you to push the amp to its limits without worry. DDT dynamically monitors your signal and automatically clamps down on peaks that could potentially damage the speaker, taming dynamics for consistent tone at any volume. The result is an amp that can keep up with any playing style while protecting your investment.
TransTube Gain Boost Provides Tube-Like Overdrive
The MAX 100 features Peavey's renowned TransTube technology, a tube emulation circuit that provides an authentic-sounding gain boost. At the push of a button, TransTube kicks your tone into overdrive, adding warmth, compression and distortion for the snarl of a tube amp. Whether you're looking to add some grit for rock or a subtle boost for contemporary styles, TransTube delivers.
Onboard EQ and Tone Controls Sculpt Your Sound
A 3-band EQ offers control over bass, midrange and treble frequencies, allowing you to cut or boost for the perfect tone. Overdrive, Contour, Mid-Shift, Bright and Kosmos-C switches, along with Volume and Gain round out the MAX 100.
Built to Perform, Built to Last
Like all Peavey gear, the MAX 100 is built for reliability and longevity. A tuned, ported enclosure with an angled baffle directs sound where you need it, while a durable steel grille protects the speaker. Road-ready and gig-tested, the MAX 100 provides a lifetime of powerful, defined bass tone in a amp designed for bassists, by bassists.

Really neat piece of gear!
Got this recently and man, has it changed my mind about smaller speakers! The one 10 inch speaker sounds MASSIVE! And the amp practically weighs nothing compared to other amps its size. One of the employees told me about one of his friends using his Max100 as a guitar amp, so I tried it and was completely blown away by how crystal clean and articulate the tone was! The Kosmos C option adds a lower frequency that fills out the sonic space and makes your sound fuller, which is helpful in live band setups with limited musicians, and the amp offers multiple eq shaping options (Bright, Contour, and Mid Cut if I'm not mistaken) that really give this amp a cool edge and adds a different dimension to your sound. And this thing can get LOUD. I practice with it on 2 or 3, but it can be cranked to hold its own against a drumset and even a full band, and the direct out option offers the possibility for running into a PA system for added volume as well as the ability to run into an interface for at-home recording. I have already recommended this amp to friends, and I will continue to stand by this line of amps!

Cool little amp but not without issues
Amp was supposed to be new but was obviously used. Gain know never worked and I'm lucky if the built-in tuner works long enough to tune one more 2 strings The amp's bass sounds great. The quality of the kids and treble is not that great. You will not get a smooth, warm, round sound from this amp. The amp has a built in compressor limiter that's always on and is not adjustable. The gain channel adds more comprehension but the gain/distortion/overdrive channel sounds weak unless you push the preamp pretty hard and then the overdrive/distortion that you do get sounds crackly and inconsistent. The Kosmo-C feature sounds pretty rad but it makes the super low frequencies perhaps too pronounced for some people's taste. you can never really get the EQ to sound balanced or NOT "digital" sounding. However, I am using an active EMG 40dc in the bridge of my bass. I also use this amp as a guitar amp and it's decent run through the preamp or into the FX loop skipping the preamp completely. I use an EMG X SAV active pickup on the neck of my PRS. overall, this is a decent home practice amp. It isn't loud enough to use with for band practice and it doesn't sound good enough to use on a live performance.

I run 2 successful Open Mics with large attendance providing a full backline. I run this through the PA via XLR & use the amp's speaker for the players monitor. Tuner works great as it also mutes the sound. Versatile/lightweight this amp is a winner. Bassists love it Great bang 4 buck!
This amp is not 100 watts

I have owned Peavey bass amps since 1984. This one is not as advertised. It is not 100 watts as my 18 year old 35 watt Peavey Max 112 is louder and has better punch than this amp. It also cannot handle basses (active or passive) that have a lot of bottom end because as you turn the volume up, you will get this garbled mess of sound coming out of it. The one positive is that you can get a cool SVT-like sound out of it. Just don't turn it up too loud.

I guess I am supposed to ask how much does it weigh, but my real question is does the chromatic tuner really only work for the 4 fundamental open string notes? What if I play a 5 string? Am I still going to have to carry a Shark just for the B string?
No. It will tune a 5 string.submitted5 years ago
