Overview

Part of Peavey's celebrated 6505 Series, the all-tube 6505 MH authentically produces the legendary tones of the Peavey 6505 in a small, portable package. The 6505 MH has two channels that follow the same gain structure and voicing of its iconic big brother to produce the devastating, overdriven tones that have defined the sound of modern metal music for more than two decades. The channels share EQ, lush reverb and an effects loop. Channels, crunch, effects loop and reverb are all footswitchable.

Peavey's TSI tube monitoring indicator keeps players apprised of power tube status, and in the event of a necessary tube replacement, identifies which tube needs to be replaced. Rear panel features such as an effects loop, Microphone Simulated Direct Interface (MSDI) with XLR output and USB out, speaker defeat switch and a three-position power attenuator switch make the 6505 MH an ideal tool for recording or use in smaller venues.

Features

  • Power: 20W (tube)
  • Attenuation: 20W, 5W or 1W
  • Tubes: three 12AX7 (preamp); two EL84 (power amp)
  • Two footswitchable channels
  • Impedance: 8, 16 ohms
  • Controls: 3-band EQ, pre-gain, post-gain, bright, crunch, presence, resonance, reverb
  • Built-in reverb
  • Footswitchable buffered effects loop
  • Tube Status Indication (TSI) circuit
  • MSDI output with XLR and ground lift switch
  • USB output for direct recording
  • Speaker defeat switch

Comments about Peavey 6505 MH Micro 20W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

I actually traded in my 6505+ full version for this, and I couldn't be happier. Now I'm not "too loud" for gigs, and the MH has PLENTY of power for when you need it. It comes with nice reverb that you can't get with the full size model.

Also, the EQ is arranged so much better. Instead of having a seperate EQ for both clean/lead channels, they both share the same EQ. Except for gain obviously. Comes with a footswitch, and it sounds amazing. The size alone makes it worth it. I went from carrying what felt like a 60+ LB head, to carrying maybe 5-lbs at most. I plan on building a complete mini rig w/ a 2x12 cab very soon. Right now I'm playing through my peavey 6505+ 4x12 cab and it sound amazing. LOVE this amp!

The clean channel does get dirty pretty easily, but that's with active pickups. The clean channel sounds great to me.

Comments about Peavey 6505 MH Micro 20W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

I play at home and occasionally record demos. I have been using a Peavey transformer 212 and running the 1/4s stereo to my mixer for recording. It has great effects and amp models, but I wanted a tube amp. I've had a Peavey head before but downsized years ago. I really liked the power of a full sized tube head but living in an apartment killed that quick. Now I'm in a home with a family and can pull off more volume. I have a peavy cabinet with Shefields that I've dragged around for years and have plugged a Peavey Envoy transtube into it. It actually did pretty good job. I watched a bunch of vids for the 6505 micro and decided to try one out at a Guitar Center. I knew I would have to tweak the heck out of my set up but I gambled on the payoff. Needless to say, it provides plenty and more of what I need without a lot of bells and whistles. I am very particular about my sound and use an overdrive pedal to give my sound some extra modeling. The Micro has a lot of distortion. A lot is an understatement. This head would be perfect if it had a crunch channel. Not a crunch add to the clean, but it's own separate crunch. I play djent and jazz death styles. To get my sound I had to cut the pre-gain to just under 2 to combine it with the overdrive to get my sound. It took about an hour to tweak knobs and pups before I was smiling inside and out. Some of the best recorded sound I've ever gotten was a mic to the envoy with that OD pedal and now I think I can replicate it with a warmer sound ala Micro. Low end modeling seems a bit thin to me but the Rez knob helped a little. I can blame my own guitars pickups as well. Amps don't hold the secrets to sound. Everything does, from the player to the guitar to the wood to the pups to the amp to the cab to the speaker. The footswitch is meh but nice to have. The bonus on this thing is what's hiding in the back. Usb, headphones, power switches for 20, 5, and 1 are nice. I can even patch it to the PA. I probably won't ever use the effects loop, but this thing has quite a bit to it for such a small package. I keep trying other brands but always end up going right back to Peavey. I almost went MESA but some reviews convinced me otherwise. The MESA mini has a little more power, but price, power, size, outputs, and ability to get my sound makes this a winner.

Comments about Peavey 6505 MH Micro 20W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

If you are a home player that wants the 6505 tone at lower volumes, this is the amp for you. While it doesn't have the same low end of the 6L6 tubes, it has plenty bite and attack with the EL84s. In comparison with other mini amps, it has the most low end.

Comments about Peavey 6505 MH Micro 20W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

I bought this to use with a classic rock band and was skeptical to even try it out at GC. It has tons of gain on hand. My criteria was a low wattage head and two channels. This thing has big buck options at a low price. I use it with my Line 6 HD 500 4 cable method and a Voodoo labs controller to change channels and even engage the crunch button on channel one. The band I am with now has electronic drums and every amp i used was too loud because I had to crank the volume to get the tone I want. I used this on 1 Watt the other night and it sounds fantastic! On channel one the gain is on 6 and usually the crunch isnt engaged. I get great breakup and sometimes use a Boss SD with light gain in front. I dont use any of the modeling on the HD 500 expect for sparkling clean (Fender model). Used on Long Train Running and Listen to the Music. Otherwise it is all the head and some effects in the loop. The lead channel I run just over 1 on the gain. Yes, 1. After that the head gets to Metal and fizzy. I can't beleive I waited so long to try it.I have a Marshall JVM Satriani head for my metal band and wasn't looking for another. Keep gain low and use a compressor and you get great classic tones Love it.

Comments about Peavey 6505 MH Micro 20W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

I would give it five stars but it is a noisy head. I have had the full size 6505+ And I feel this little guy delivers in every way shape and form. I run an isp decimator in the loop along with a bbe sonic maximizer. If you want the big sound do yourself a favor and run a 4x12 cab with this head. I have ran it through a Randall rv412 with v30/T75s. Awesome. I also ran it through a Mesa Boogie recto 112. Both sound good but the 412 takes the cake. I like to move air! I do recommend a clean boost on the front end too. Tighten the flub. If that is what you like. I purchased this head and the ENGL Ironball 20 head at the same time. If I were to buy one or the other head and did not care about the price difference, I would get the ENGL. On its own with no other pedals can hold its own. I feel the peavey mh needs a little setup to really make it come alive. That is all my opinion only and may not apply to all of you. \m/

PLENTY of gain and handles cleans much better than would be expected. Built in reverb sounds good, and the switchable power levels comes in handy for bedroom practice.

Comments about Peavey 6505 MH Micro 20W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

This amp isn't called the Peavey 5150s younger brother for nothing. This little thing packs a punch. I really wanted an EVH but couldn't afford it so I was recommended this amp and I couldn't be more impressed. When I perform songs like Runnin' With The Devil, Ain't Talkin Bout Love, etc., I get that perfect sound these songs really need.

Comments about Peavey 6505 MH Micro 20W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

I have been looking for a good metal tube amp for a few months now and my criteria after sound quality was, due to my home environment, being able to power down to 5w & 1w and also have an emulated headphone out and have two channels. I am a major Metallica fan and going from clean to distortion and back with a footswitch was a must. My search started with the Engl Ironball amp head and the EVH 5150III that fit all my requirements. Both were alittle out of my price range, so I tried out the Marshall DSL5C. It was a fine amp and had the options I needed, but it did not reach the high gain I needed so I kept my search going after sending it back. I was almost ready to give up and stick with my modeling amp for metal playing when I found that Peavey made a mini head version of their 6505. It had the power down and headphone option I was looking for unlike their fullsize version. I ordered the head & cabinet combo and Wow, it is all I was looking for. Gobs of gain and a nice clean. The headphone emulation is a very good sounding one. It sounds very close to the cabinet. This is perfect for Metallica and beyond. The gain goes way past my needs. Awesome amp.

I owned a VOX AC120VT amplifier to practice on. After figuring out I wanted to play Van Halen I looked for the strong EVH sound, but without paying the EVH price. I purchased this awesome tube amp with an EVH Ivory 2x12 cabinet and it is a monster. Partnered with my EVH Wolfgang Special Black, I can play any Van Halen song I desire with that incredible sound. It sounds identical to the album. I can practice along with a backing track with absolute precision. This amp won't let you down
