Open Box Peavey 6505 MH Micro 20W Tube Guitar Amp Head Level 1

Great little head. Sound quality is good, (best on 20w mode and higher volume). Reverb is good. EQ is responsive. Clean channel is nice if your not using really hot pickups. Crunch channel is versatile, again if your not using really hot pickups. Lead channel is why you buy this head, BUT, the usable gain on the lead channel ends at about 12 o'clock on this channel. After 12 o'clock the gain is just too fuzzy and out of control. You will need a good overdrive pedal to tighten up the low end for this head if you want that chest pounding chug. Does it country? I suppose it could. Will it do AC/DC style crunch? Hell yes it will. Can you get a Djent sound? Most definitely. Does it do Slayer? Absolutely. Will it Dimebag? Yes, very close with the right pedals and some tweaking. Should you buy it? Well, for the money and Guitar centers return policy? there is no reason not to give it a try. Just keep in mind that your results may vary. Just my humble review. Enjoy!

I love this amp. It absolutely rocks! This amp is not a one trick pony, don't be fooled. The rhythm channel is basically the clean/crunch channel and I love it. The cleans are very pronounced and bold and with the pre-gain at about 9 o'clock and the post gain adjusted to desired volume it sounds great. Turn it up to about 11 or 12 and the crunch is very smooth and cutting. The lead channel is absolutely searing and indulgent. It's gain structure is absolutely brutal and the sustain is insane. I don't really turn the pre-gain past 11 on this channel, for me it starts to saturate at about 10 and at 9 or below you can really get a great old school metal tone. I suggest using this with the cab Peavey reccomends, while not lacking in treble the Greenback really gives it a nice punch and tightness that really complements the amp. Being a tube amp it sounds great with a variety of pickups, single coil stuff is very well at home and with humbuckers, well you can probably guess. The amp really responds to your volume and tone controls on your guitar and your touch and I can't recommend it more.

I think anyone who is looking at this amp is interested in some sort of metal or hard rock. This amp is incredible when it comes to sound. There isn't much of a "clean" tone from clean channel; although, cranking the rhythm volume and rolling back nearly every bit of the volume on my neck pick up was perfect. Most impressive is how loud it gets. Everyone asks if it can keep up with a live drummer or if it can be used on stage.....the answer is yes and yes, it has loads of volume. I'm pushing a 412 cap with no limits...I intend on getting a 112 cab for portability more than anything. I also have a Marshall TSL60 and I really can't believe how the MH is as loud(louder). The MSDI and headphone jack does handicap the sound quite a bit...but it's cool to plug in some headphones and get at it if I don't want get crazy. Bottom line, if you're interested in alot of the 15-20w high gain amps that I was looking into, I don't think you can go wrong here...you can open it, set it up for your sound and play a show right now. It also comes with a footswitch where a lot of the other amps in this range don't. It's also one of the better priced amps as well. I'm not sure if I'm more surprised at the overall volume it can achieve or simply how good the tone is. Go get it.

I purchased one of these brand new from the website while I was in store because I'm funny about buying demo gear from the sales floor that everyone has had their grimy hands on and they didn't have one in an unopened box. It arrived brand new to my house a few days later. Let me tell you... I freaking LOVE this little heavy metal b*stard! I've owned the 120watt head and the 112 combo and can say without a doubt that this 6505 mini head sounds just like both its big brothers. I've read a few bad reviews of this thing and I honestly can't understand why. If you can't find a desirable tone out of this portable little beast, either your ears need to be cleaned out, you're playing really sh*tty guitars through it, or you have ZERO idea how to dial in a high gain amp and don't deserve to own one. Both my Jackson RR1's as well as my Jackson SL1 sound freaking amazing through this thing! I think I played it for 3 hours straight the first day. Go get one!

I bought this to use with a classic rock band and was skeptical to even try it out at GC. It has tons of gain on hand. My criteria was a low wattage head and two channels. This thing has big buck options at a low price. I use it with my Line 6 HD 500 4 cable method and a Voodoo labs controller to change channels and even engage the crunch button on channel one. The band I am with now has electronic drums and every amp i used was too loud because I had to crank the volume to get the tone I want. I used this on 1 Watt the other night and it sounds fantastic! On channel one the gain is on 6 and usually the crunch isnt engaged. I get great breakup and sometimes use a Boss SD with light gain in front. I dont use any of the modeling on the HD 500 expect for sparkling clean (Fender model). Used on Long Train Running and Listen to the Music. Otherwise it is all the head and some effects in the loop. The lead channel I run just over 1 on the gain. Yes, 1. After that the head gets to Metal and fizzy. I can't beleive I waited so long to try it.I have a Marshall JVM Satriani head for my metal band and wasn't looking for another. Keep gain low and use a compressor and you get great classic tones Love it.

I would give it five stars but it is a noisy head. I have had the full size 6505+ And I feel this little guy delivers in every way shape and form. I run an isp decimator in the loop along with a bbe sonic maximizer. If you want the big sound do yourself a favor and run a 4x12 cab with this head. I have ran it through a Randall rv412 with v30/T75s. Awesome. I also ran it through a Mesa Boogie recto 112. Both sound good but the 412 takes the cake. I like to move air! I do recommend a clean boost on the front end too. Tighten the flub. If that is what you like. I purchased this head and the ENGL Ironball 20 head at the same time. If I were to buy one or the other head and did not care about the price difference, I would get the ENGL. On its own with no other pedals can hold its own. I feel the peavey mh needs a little setup to really make it come alive. That is all my opinion only and may not apply to all of you. \m/
