Solid, sturdy case, minor flaw...

As far as the case, hardware, lining, etc goes, you can't do better for the price. One slight problem I have is that the back of my banjo sits too deep in the pocket, which causes the neck to press up against the top up near the head. It's not a lot of pressure, but enough to worry me. Easy fix though - throw a towel under you banjo and she sits flush and pretty!

Nice Case ...But

The case is very well made and looks like more $$ than I paid. BUT I have to agree with a previous review that the neck support is WAY too high and it doesn't work unless I place a folded towel under the banjo body. I thinks its still worth the $$ but a redesign is in order.

My large size 5 string banjo fits perfectly in this case. The velvet padded interior provides great protection against scratches and damage. The outside hard shell is lightweight but tough enough to be dropped but I wouldn't try it with a banjo inside.

  • Sturdy, good looking case for proper size resonator banjo.

I measured my banjo in the course of looking for cases or gig bags in order to avoid problems experienced by other buyers at various sites for various brands. This was the best bargain.

  • I would buy again

I bought this for home storage of a relatively inexpensive 5 string banjo with a resonator, and I expect it will work well. It seems to be of very good quality for the price. It does however, have two potential problems with regard to fit. As was mentioned in other reviews, the neck cradle is a too high; I would estimate the bottom of the cradle is about 3.5" above the bottom of the case; but, since the case is overall a little oversized for the banjo in question, a little padding (such as a small towel) under the resonator, fixes that problem for me. Also, the dimensions given in the on-line product description are not accurate, depending on how tight you want the fit. I'd say a banjo with a body width of about 13.5" and an overall depth of 4.5" (including bridge) would be about the maximum for this case. I base this on trial fitting a larger banjo I own.

The airline would probably approve it but that just gives you the right to file a claim. It is not suitable for air travel. To the airline your instrument is nothing more than heavy baggage. You need a “flight case”. Please see "Fender CEO Guitar Flight Case with Wheels Aluminum Gray"

Is this designed for a resonator banjo or open back? Would an open back banjo have extra space and slide around in this case?

It will work with both, but with the open back would have a bit of extra space. You can add a slab of foam that will prevent that.
