Mitchell Terra Series Solid-Top Mahogany Acoustic Guitars

Description
To succeed in music, you need to start off with the right instrument. With that in mind, Mitchell created the Terra Series acoustic and acoustic/electric guitars, which includes this T331 dreadnought acoustic. The Terra Series offers guitarists budget-friendly options with great looks and tone to inspire and keep players engaged on their musical journey.

A solid start starts with a solid top
Unlike many other guitars in its class, the T331 features a solid top, striped mahogany in this case, paired with layered striped mahogany back and sides. Add to that an open-pore satin body finish and forward-shifted X bracing, and you've got a guitar with natural good looks that offers rich, warm tone and deeper resonance right out the box.

The perfect neck shape
To give all players the best experience possible, the T331 was crafted with a comfortable, satin-finished, slim-C neck design. This is ideal for younger players and those with smaller hands trying to familiarize themselves with sliding up and down the neck as they hone their skills. Experienced players will enjoy its familiar feel. Its rosewood fingerboard adds even more warmth and sweetness.

Added touches for a better guitar
Mitchell equipped the T331 dreadnought with high-ratio sealed gear tuners. This ensures quick, stable tuning for great performance every time you pick it up. Other appointments that separate it from most acoustic guitars in its class include a rosewood headplate overlay, a beautiful abalone and multi-ring rosette, TUSQ nut, compensated saddle and a black pickguard.

I don't regret it!
I bought the 10 year old granddaughter a Little Martin because she showed an interest in learning to play. Little did I know I would wind up teaching her. Great, but I'm a drummer. I can play bass, too, but guitars have always eluded me. So, since I'm suddenly a guitar teacher, I bought this Mitchell T331so we could learn together. I'm taking lessons, and then I pass them on to her. We're having so much fun! It's a great way to spend some time together. I've been around long enough to recognize a well built, great sounding, ergonomically easy to play guitar, and this Mitchell is all of those. The tone is outstanding for a low budget learner. I absolutely love the looks of it too! Pics don't do it justice. It came with standard medium DeAddario strings, and in the week I've had it, I've tuned it 3 times, 2 for the new string stretch, and once because I'm clumsy and hit the tuners. No damage, just de-tuned a couple strings. The guitar needed no after purchase setup. The neck is straight, the frets are smooth and even, and the body is fairly solid for such thin, light wood. The volume is nice, it projects when you want it to, and whispers when you want that too. Did I mention the tone? It's lovely! Really. And I don't use that word often. The sound from this guitar is as good as a lot of far more expensive guitars I've heard. I've got some DeAddario silk and steel strings coming to make it easier on my fingers while I'm learning. The one flaw I've noticed is a barely noticeable spot on the back of the neck, near where it joins the body, that slightly dips and then returns to normal, like a spot that could have been sanded a little more before finishing, but it doesn't affect the playability at all, and in my eyes isn't a defect, but a beauty mark that says hand made and individual. So, not a problem, at least to me, but I'm a drummer and not a guitar snob, lol. All in all, I don't regret this purchase in the slightest. In fact, I'm loving it more every day.

Sounds great for the money, but some quality control issues
I'm impressed with the guitar overall, but unfortunately there are some issues I'm considering trying to exchange it or have it repaired under warranty. Issue 1 - The nut slots are cut too low which causes buzzing on the open strings. I could fix this myself, but shouldn't have to replace the nut on a new guitar. It's a decent quality tusq nut, so it's too bad they set it up wrong. Issue 2 - There are a couple high frets causing some buzzing. These are higher up on the neck around fret 13/14 and can easily be filed down slightly, but again it's unfortunate the fretwork wasn't better from the factory. Again, these issues aside...this is a pretty incredible sounding and playing instrument for the money.

I bought the Mitchell T331 as the first real step in my guitar journey because Mitchell is my mother's maiden name and I thought the mahogany was gorgeous. It has made the start of this journey not just approachable, but joyful. I couldn't ask for a better budget guitar.

I ordered this guitar thinking that it would have multiple QC issues and shallow tone, but I was surprised to find that the guitar had excellent workmanship and, even more importantly, had deep resonant sound. Thank you Guitar Center!
