Very Cool Amp
Very cool amp. Love the classic Plexi look. Very versatile. I like the power settings the most. Sounds good at low power settings, but will need an over drive for most players. Not a high gain amp. Takes pedals well, including the aforementioned overdrive.

Too Much Hum
This amp sounds very good, but mine hums a lot. I have a JCM 800 and several other amps, and I bought this for the JCM sound at lower volume. It does sound very JCM 800-ish. But one of the nice things about tube amps aside from that they sound great, is that you can roll off the volume on the guitar and clean up the sound nicely. You can't do that with this amp (well at least not with mine), because when the volume is rolled back it hums. Wide open on the volume knob, it sounds great and has only a light hum, but roll back a bit and it's not usable. I've got the same pedal rig going into my JCM 800 and I don't have a gum problem. But plug into the Origin 20 - and roll back the volume a tad, and there's the very strong hum. And I'm talking hum you can hear through the playing; it just ain't usable unless guitar volume is wide open. I've tried several guitars and same problem on all. Disappointed. I would not recommend it to a friend for this reason. Oh, I also swapped preamp tubes since I have plenty of those laying around. It did not help with the hum.

Took me a minute... but now I love it!

I'm not new to tube amps and nevertheless I'm not new to tube Marshall heads. But it still got me a minute to figure out how to like this amp. Let's just say that with the master volume set to any lower than 7 or 8 out of 10 there's no saturation coming out of this amp whatsoever, and even with different pedals that I tried it was impossible for me to get a decent sound out of this thing at low volume. Meaning that unless I only play during the day, and when nobody is home (especially the neighbors) there's no way I can use the amp. On top of it, the way the eq works combined to the tilt and the presence control is not as straight forward as it might seem. To the point that I considered returning it. Long story short, I decided to give it one last try and I put a power attenuator between the Origin and the cabinet. Night and day. Now I can crank the amp as loud as it goes and get that awesome saturated tube Marshall tone that I was hoping for. With the right OD in front of it I can go from slightly crunch, all to way to heavy metal tones. Bottom-line, you either live in the middle of nowhere with nobody around for miles or you have a power attenuator for this amp. If yes to either of those, the Origin 20 is phenomenal. You are not going to find another full tube Marshall head at this price anywhere else. But otherwise you might want to look for something different that actually has a master volume control.
I would buy this product a million times over

Love everything about it. The classic Marshall sound as I remembered when I had my JCM800 back in the 80's (still upset with myself for getting rid of it). Only thing I would have liked, would be a stand-by switch. Maybe put the switchable power switch in the back (how often are you really going to use it)?

Currently using it as a home practice amp with an attenuator to give you the breakup tone Marshall's are known for. Gives plenty of sound when cranked and goes from pretty clean to that classic tone by cranking the amp.

Other than volume would there be much sound difference comparing a origin20h 20w with 3 x ecc83 preamp tubes versus a origin50h 50w with three 12ax7 preamp tubes?
This needs a little bit of discussion. Please give us a call 855-770-3373submitted3 years ago

Can this Origen 20 head be coupled with the Marshall MX212A 2x12? Speakers say 8 ohms--amp says 16 ohm and 8 ohm..If so, which plug on back of amp do I utilize, middle or right?
You could unplug the middle 1/4 phone and plug your MX212A as an external speaker.
