Markbass

collapse expand iconDescription

The Markbass MB58R MINI CMD 121 PURE bass combo features a 1x12" neodymium custom speaker and a hi-fi tweeter. This combo delivers 300 watts (RMS) of power standalone, and it can be easily upgraded to a powerful 2x12" 500W rig with the addition of a MB58R 121 PURE cabinet. The sound that comes from this amp simply does not match what you see when you look at such a small and ultralight cube, weighing only 21.7 lb.

I was surprised with how this tiny 1X12 combo can fill a room. This has enough oomph to push thru the mix and still the bottom without the woofer farting out! I had my frustrations with markbass because l didn't understand how to dial it in for the highs. Once l figured out that vle is the tweeter/presence and vpf is my contour, l could find the tone for any bass at any venue, especially with the 4 band eq. I also used to prefer front ports to rear ports, but the rear ports could be the secret sauce for this lil rig. I tilt mines about 30 degrees near a wall and this thing is set! Controls on top for easy access, its a wrap. My only complaint is the tone at home isn't as warm as my 8 yr old cmd121h, but it's so light and easy to transport and it fills the room!

  • Ultralight and powerful combo amp

This is the lightest MB amp I've tried especially given its wattage. I ran a 5 string Roscoe and a short scale P bass through it, aiming to get a full, deep and clear tone without high frequency noise. While I came close, I never got to a decent tone, in part because the tweeter can't be turned off. The casing appears to be an ultralight plastic, in places feeling more like hard styrofoam… Overall a decent amp and exceptionally portable and powerful, but for the price I'd prefer a fuller tone range similar to the comparable Acoustic combo amps. However a fuller tone may not be physically possible with an ultralight casing. I returned it to the local GC who, as always, were courteous and helpful.

Yes, the Markbass MB58R MINI CMD 121 PURE bass combo does have a line out. 2) The amp has to be on for the line out to work.
