The MXL Revelation II is a premium variable-pattern tube microphone for studios that delivers the warmth and intimacy of a classic tube microphone with a lush midrange providing a unique color and sound to any microphone locker.

A dual gold-sputtered, 6-micron diaphragm and hand-selected EF86 pentode tube provide warmth and character giving the Revelation II an iconic sound.

The Revelation II's variable selection knob allows for limitless transitions between cardioid, omnidirectional and figure-8 polar patterns.       I purchased the original MXL Revelation Mic for about $1200 when they first came out and still think it was worth every penny. I now own two of these mics. It is my all time favorite mic. The Revelation ll is the exact same mic (spec) with a few minor cosmetic changes and a better price. Please read the Sound on Sound magazine reviews of both versions of this mic. I also use the Shure SM7B. The 7B can best be optimized with a high gain (70-80dB), selectable low impedance (300-600 ohms) preamp. Additionally I use the AKG 414 MKll. A stellar condenser mic. Like I said the MXL Revelation is my all time favorite.

    • Good sounding mic but the power supply hums

      My tube guitar amps don't hum. Not sure why the power supply for the Revelation mic hums. I contacted MXL about the hum and here was their reply: "The power supply may make a hum just from the nature of it providing the necessary power. If it's not being picked up in the recording, you are ok to continue using it. Sometimes the microphone may need to be placed away from the power supply so the hum isn't picked up in the background. If you do have any serious issues with the microphone, please don't hesitate to let us know." Pretty funny that it "may hum" and "please let us know if you have a serious problem"... LOL!!! I also emailed an inquiry to Musician's Friend but, got no reply.
